Cancer is uncontrolled cell division causing troubles to the body. Colon cancer is the cancer involving the large intestine. The treatment caries according to the stages. Some times early surgical intervention with the mix of radiation and chemotherapy provides the patient a lengthier life. Therefore sometimes colon cancer chemotherapy is necessary and can quite possibly be a solution.
Chemotherapy is otherwise regarded as chemical remedy where drugs are given to arrest or stop the cells from growing and thus arrest the cancer. These drugs can trigger the hair to fall and this will soon reverse as our hair roots grow within a few months. Chemotherapy is generally taken up for phase 2, stage 3, and stage 4 colon cancer.
An Oncologist is the only doctor who will administer chemotherapy. He will personally watch over each patient as it has to be given in a certain manner. Some of the drugs should not be exposed to light and the drug should be covered with carbon paper to administer, and the patient is generally kept in a dark room. Due to these drugs the patient will have vomiting so it will be better to isolate then as it will be irritable for the patient undergoing chemotherapy.
Avastin is the drug generally given with all the other drugs for cancer. Adrucil interferes with the progress of cancer cells. Camptostar, Eloxatin, Erbitux, Leucovorin, Vectibix and Xeloda is used to struggle the cancer cells. The mixture will be decided by the oncologist. The program may vary and there may be quite a few sitting downs. The chemotherapy will be done a few months away from each sitting. This is done for the drugs to act on the cancer cells, as well as give time for the patient to recoup his wellness for the next sitting down.
It is great suffering for the patient to undergo this treatment and it is just not chemotherapy, but a blend of surgery and radiation so the patient is definitely the patient needs support and consideration and patience. The harrowing time is terrible and patients are generally very worn out due to the side effects. You will need to support them in every way you can.
