Today, affiliate marketing is an extremely big and competitive market. Do not be surprised that you or your friends might be into affiliate marketing. It is definitely one channel which you can generate additional income other than your full-time job. In this affiliate business, both affiliates and merchants are on win-win situation. However, to be able to get a sale materialize depends a lot on how good the affiliate marketer is. Some affiliates have better selling strategies, web presentation or advertising and are thus more successful in this line of business. So an affiliate marketer must be creative enough to employ thinking-out-of-the-box ways to convince visitors to purchase the promoted products.

Why still so many people fail in affiliate marketing? Some main reasons which I have brainstormed are as follows:

  1. Lack of web planning

As an affiliate marketer, you must do your homework on site-planning. All concerning factors, such as domain name, layout design, site contents and ads, must be studied and planned beforehand. Failure to plan, lack of rich-content, or ugly site layout, will highly result in failure. Websites with high quality contents and relevant keywords allow you to earn big in affiliate marketing. If you won't be able to sustain the interest of your site visitors, it would be hard for you to lead them to the merchant site. Thus no click-through means no sale and no income ultimately.

  1. Lack of advertising

Affiliate marketing is not as simply directing customers to the business site. You have to do more than that. Time investment and tremendous amount of hard work must be dedicated to promoting the products. Remember the notion that every customer wants to get the best purchase in terms of price and quality.

  1. Selecting the wrong domain name

Make sure you are using top level domain name. Many a time affiliate sites do not appear in search engine results because they are not a top level domain name, and are deemed as non-business related sites. You must also decide properly and appropriately on your domain name. Make it relevant to what you are promoting or else visitors will not go to your site.

  1. Choosing the wrong affiliate program

Research on and choose a suitable affiliate program. Study on the good-paying merchandisers before you sign up for the affiliate program. Ensure that the merchant products and services match your interests first so that you will give your utmost attention and dedication to the program. Try reading relevant articles and get tips or advice from other experienced affiliate marketers on how to choose the best merchants and products with high conversion rate. Remember, your site must match your targeted niche visitors. A lot of people simply sign up for any affiliate program without carefully understanding every aspect of the business. When they do not see instant results, they just quit.

Other than the above factors, you need to possess the right attitude too. Many fail because they expect to earn big quickly. You have to look in the long-term if you want to be successful. You will need to polish up your knowledge, such as advertising to marketing and search engine optimization. Most importantly, you must study the market wants and needs continually without fail. As the saying goes, persevere and never give up - you will never know the final outcome until you have tried your very best.
