When the appendix is not removed on time due to appendicitis, the patient could even die. The appendix looks like a close ended and narrow tube which is of several inches by length that attaches itself to the first part of the colon called the cecum, like a worm. The inner lining of the appendix produces mucus which then flows out of the opening of the appendix into the cecum. The appendix contains a tissue which is part of the immune system used in producing antibodies. Hence the term appendicitis refers to the inflammation of this particular appendix.

One does not understand the existence of this appendix in a person’s body because it’s of no use and has no particular purpose. It’s definitely a question why nature had to put it in the first place. When people do get their appendix removed because of appendicitis they start to live just fine after that.

What are the symptoms that one needs to look for?

Appendicitis could happen to just anyone at any time, it normally happens to individuals in their prime, particularly between the age of 10 and 30. The most common of these symptoms is terrible pain in the abdomen. Appendicitis pain is not like the pain one normally gets when he/she is suffering from gas or indigestion. This kind of pain is unbearable and can make a person weak. Lying down on one side with the knees pressed against their chest could ease the pain, but the most important part here is that the only way one can get rid of the pain is actually by getting rid of the appendicitis itself.

When a person does not take enough care to go to the doctor and getting it removed, it could actually progress to a particular point where the appendix could burst. Although this condition could help one get relieved from the pain it could actually be very deadly. It is so because when the appendix bursts it releases pus and other infectious organisms in the abdominal area. This could result in forming an appendiceal abscess; a person could survive as this might help get rid of the antibodies but eventually will also burst. Either way, it’s always better to treat appendicitis before it can get worse.
