The first step to reducing the chances of permanent joint damage after experiencing gout attacks is to treat gout by preventing their occurrence in the first place.Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease, (DJD), is the most common form of arthritis and is caused by the breakdown of cartilage in one or more joints.
Everyone's symptoms differ but, for the most part, the symptoms felt by joints, inflammation of them in particular, are simply uncomfortable and can affect range of motion and even life activities. The reasons for the inflammation and discomfort can also differ by person and there can be a combination of reasons for the pain.
Other symptoms may include swelling, stiffness and tenderness at the base of the thumb, decreased strength when grasping objects, enlarged appearance or a 'bony' look to the base of the thumb and general discomfort and aching after use.
Visible swelling of the joints. This is the most common symptom, and usually the first to appear. While not every joint may be affected, those that are will have noticeable puffiness and may be red in appearance and warm to the touch.
Rheumatoid arthritis (rheumatism) joint pain is more common in women than in men and usually effects the over-40's. It tends to attack the hands, causing swelling in the knuckles, though it can affect any other part of the body, including the lungs and eyes.
Pain and stress have similar effects on the body: muscles tighten, breathing becomes fast and shallow, and heart rate and blood pressure go up. Pain in the muscle 'without' cramping is usually mild while muscle pain 'with' cramping is usually Myofascial pain.
The natural treatment for joint pain is to have anti oxidants. Good sources of antioxidants are vegetables and fruits. Destruction to the joints is minimized on having high fiber and least fat foods.
Omega 3 capsules or omega 3 pills for joint conditions are often overlooked as a way of improving joint conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. In many ways this seems like an outlandish claim but for those who are keeping up with the latest research it is not surprising at all.
Exercising is also very important for both bone and joint health. Some exercises that you could do include: walking, biking, aerobics, and weight-lifting. Doing weight bearing exercises helps the bones to become stronger, builds up muscles, and helps with balance which may help reduce falls and fractures.
Another common method of relieving joint pain is the use of medicines or temperature packs, such as a heating pack or a cold pack. In some cases, a steroid called glucocorticoid or hyaluronic acid is injected into the joint and provides long term pain relief lasting around 4-12 months.
Eating healthy foods that help you to burn fat instead of storing it can also fix your joints. A diet rich in calcium, omega 3s, and vitamin C will (respectively) help strengthen your bones thereby preventing you from experiencing joint-damaging falls, lubricate the surfaces between the joints, and help reduce the risk of osteoarthritis.
