Denver is a city that has something fresh and new to offer around every corner. This makes it easy to get worn out trying to see everything. But there is a way to see a different part of Denver and find out more about Denver recreation too – and that is to explore some of the city’s parks.

Washington Park is a good place to start. It was designed back in the early 20th century, and one of the best features has to be the recreation center inside the park itself. You can enjoy a swim here as well as use some of the trails which weave their way around outside in the park itself. The variety of sports and recreational activities offered here are one of the main reasons why you should consider a visit while you are in town.

Elsewhere in Denver you can visit the Commons Park, which is a very different park indeed to what you will have seen in Washington Park. For starters it is part of a drive to develop much of the riverfront area that the Commons Park is a part of. You will find it easy to fit into a day’s worth of exploring Denver, since the park is in the middle of many connecting routes throughout the city. You can easily pass through it on your way to somewhere else.

As for recreational activities the park welcomes cyclists who use it as a cut through. There is also plenty of space to walk around and sit back and relax with a picnic. The nature of the park makes it a good place to watch the world go by as well.

Elsewhere there is another park to visit for some Denver recreation that also has the added mystery of some ghostly presences. Denver’s Cheesman Park seems to be haunted, according to several sources, and the reason for this would appear to be the ground on which the park was built.

The ground was originally a cemetery but in the early 20th century a park – the existing park you will see today – was created in its place. While some of the bodies at rest there were exhumed and reburied elsewhere, many of them were not. And this is the reason why some people say Cheesman Park is haunted today. Would it be any big surprise if it wasn’t?

But if you are curious to see some ghosts or you simply want to enjoy the land as it is now, Cheesman Park provides ample opportunity to explore and enjoy a stroll on the grass and towards the pavilion. This is by far the best recreational activity to take part in here – the chance to walk among the flowers and plants and enjoy the land for what it is today.

Denver recreation comes in many shapes and forms. But there is no doubt that the city’s parks have a history and a joy that is worth discovering, and it is uniquely their own.
