Proper diet and exercise should be two of the utmost concerns of a person. According to some people, "we are what we eat." This is true in the context that the kind of food that we eat eventually results to illnesses or conditions that we might develop in the later part of our lives. One of these uncomfortable conditions is hemorrhoids. A lot of people would not want to talk about this painful condition, and only very few acknowledge that they are suffering from hemorrhoids. As such, some conditions worsen because of neglect and oversight.

Each one has hemorrhoidal veins found inside and outside the anus. However, not all of these veins are irritated and swollen. When these veins are irritated, these consequently develop into hemorrhoids. Most people that are suffering from hemorrhoids physically feel the symptoms and manifestations of swollen hemorrhoidal veins. Aside from bleeding, the other symptoms include pain, burning sensation, and general discomfort. If anyone perceives these symptoms, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Hemorrhoids are one of the most extensive conditions in the United States. In fact, according to statistics, more than half of the US population develops this condition when they reach the age of 50. This is attributed to the Western lifestyle, and to the kind of diet that they have. It cannot be denied that highly industrialized countries rely so much on processed foods, and are deficient on fibers. This poor diet contributes to the development of hemorrhoids. A diet that is low on fiber, and high on preservatives leads to constipation and results into improper bowel movement.

Consequently, constipation causes straining in the toilet, causing the hemorrhoidal veins to strain as well. Moreover, the modern day toilet structures also contribute to straining. Therefore, hemorrhoids actually boil down to proper diet. However, there are other factors that contribute to hemorrhoids aside from improper diet such as aging, bouts of diarrhea, and heredity.

Fortunately though, hemorrhoids heal by themselves. This means that swollen veins usually resolve themselves without outside interference; unless irritated or aggravated. The sad part about it though is that once you develop hemorrhoids, you will most likely have it for the rest of your life. This is because the walls of the swollen veins have already weakened and are vulnerable to irritation and flare ups.

On the other hand, you can always control and prevent hemorrhoids from recurring. By maintaining a healthy diet which is rich in fiber, you can prevent the occurrence or reoccurrence of hemorrhoids. Moreover, a good bowel habit is encouraged in order to eliminate toilet straining which can cause hemorrhoids. Finally, a regular exercise definitely helps in the prevention of hemorrhoids. It would help if you avoid standing or sitting for a long time since these put pressure on the hemorrhoidal veins.
