No Gunshots at the Greyhound Racing Track?

Over the years, a number of methods have been employed to euthanize racing greyhounds as quickly and cheaply as possible. This often meant a bullet and a busted corpses tossed in the back of the vehicle that brought the dogs to the track. As a result of public outrage, some race dog owners finally turned to euthanasia. Unfortunately, we do not know how many animals are taken back to the farms live in order to be dispatched in inhumane ways. If the Wilgenburg brothers using wood chippers to kill chickens were disturbing, the potential fate of greyhounds should raise just as much concern.
In many cases, greyhound puppies do not even make it to their first race. The act of breeding greyhounds is as barbaric as what happens at the racetrack. Not only are the breeding dogs kept in horrible conditions, the puppies are fed the cheapest, poorest quality of food available. From the moment they are born, if the greyhound puppies do not exhibit the characteristics of a racer, it is as good as a death sentence. They are put to death almost immediately.
Regardless of your personal situation, there are a number of things you can do to see this "sport" finished. Firstly, if you go to dog races, don’t place bets. Go to educate other people that are placing bets. Make sure they see what happens to the dogs after the race. Are the animals handled roughly? Is there evidence that the animals are already being put to death? If so, you are well on the way to exposing those dog owners for their reprehensible behaviors.
If you live near a public track, or know of a private one, don't be afraid to raise awareness at your local town hall. Once the neighbors of greyhound owners and trainers know what kind of people live amongst them, then peer pressure can be applied on the tracks and breeders in order to put them out of business. A petition is also a good way to go to make your voice heard on an international stage. For example, the petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-the-greyhound-slaughter is designed t collect as many signatures as possible in order to form a global voice against the slaughter. It will be distributed amongst governments and the greyhound racing organizers to try and get various laws governing the sport changed, if not abolished forever. Signing this petition will ensure that you do your bit to highlight the plight of these beautiful creatures.
All across America, and in many other nations, there are action groups whose intention is put greyhound racetracks out of business and save these poor creatures from a horrible fate. If you are a member of Facebook, you have access to one of these groups right now. Stop Greyhound Slaughter has been set up to raise awareness and encourage people to make their voices heard. It can be found at: http://apps.facebook.com/causes/view_cause/18204?recruiter_id=4095598. You can also leave donations for a non-profit greyhound rescue there too.
As greyhound racetracks and the owners of racing dogs mercilessly exploit the animals in their care, this "sport" needs to be stopped immediately. As more and more people become aware of the situation and take action, the sooner greyhound racing will be put out of its misery.
Showing support for the process of adopting greyhounds when they retire and voice our objections to their needless slaughter. Helping to prevent this from happening to any other animals. - Louise Crowley
