The biggest problem at your work place is that your boss evaluates you and not the other way round. In the first place the difference between a good and a bad boss is that the former motivates to excel in your work, the latter demotivates you. In that case you need to check what exactly the approach of your boss is. In preliminary stages you may not be able to understand that. A deeper observation will tell you all. Then you also need to observe how he controls his anger and frustration. You can scrutinize his behavior on days when he fails to do certain things. You can also have a good idea from the way he acts on the failure of his team members.

Once again you need to study how he helps his juniors. If he is good at it then he will be guiding and training his juniors in every possible way. A good boss will always look after his team members and he will help them grow in the trade.

See how responsible he is. You can also examine that from his working style and principles. In simple what can be said is that ways to evaluate your boss need not be a lengthy procedure but you have to be quite an observant.
