Visit Salcombe Castle in Fort Charles. The picturesque ruins of Fort Charles, was built by Henry VIII as a harbour defence in 1544 to protect the estuary from French and Spanish raiders.

Visit Overbeck's Museum and Gardens (National Trust). The museum is located in the Edwardian Overbeck’s house and mainly focuses on the maritime heritage of the local area. The gardens are set high above the estuary, and provide stunning views to visitors. The garden is full of exotic and rare species of flora, something that should not be missed out on.

Visit the Museum of Maritime and Local History. The museum portrays the local maritime history and an exhibition that is changed annually to keep regular visitors interested. The museum also features a section on the role that the area played in the run up to the D Day landings.

Visit Hope Cove. This is a beautiful coastal sanctuary, which is now a charming holiday destination. The picturesque fishing village of Hope Cove is two villages in one - Outer and Inner Hope.

There are many beaches to visit in Salcombe – North Sands, a small beach with golden sand is situated close to the Salcombe Caste; just south of this beach is South Sands and Splat Coves which has water sports equipment hire. The East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary is lined by many beaches – these include Fishermans Cove, Smalls Cove and the main beach Mill Bay. The sand is fine with sheltered water and fine views. Sailing in Salcombe is active, sailors go out from the harbour or from up the river every day.
