Winning over a potential employer at the interview stage can be tough, but critical to your success in landing your dream job! Following these steps will make all the difference to you winning the job you desire!

When a job is advertised, the agency or company will tell you how to respond. If they ask you to send your resume in a particular format, follow those instructions perfectly.

  1. A swift response is critical, both for you and for the agency you will be dealing with. If there is any doubt, follow up as soon as possible after forwarding your resume to ensure it has been received. This call also gives you the opportunity to draw attention to your commitment and ability - which may be just the thing to set you apart!

  2. Once you have an interview confirmed, ensure you know exactly where you are going and which method of transport is going to get you there on with plenty of time to spare. Aim to be five minutes early.

  3. Make sure you bring your resume to any interviews you have. It will be good for you to refer to it, even if the company already has it.

  4. You will have to make sure you have proof of your suitability to work in the job you have chosen in the country you are in.

  5. Make sure you have your verbal referees' telephone contact details on your CV. Referees should be people to whom you have reported directly and whose permission you have already asked to be your referee.

  6. Dress to impress. Dress as you would if you were going to meet your new employer for the first time. A conservative suit in a darker colour along with appropriate, clean shoes and bag/briefcase is generally the safest bet you can take. If applying for a position in a creative area, consider how you would dress for your first day on the job.

  7. Do not arrive with unnecessary items, ie. shopping bags or gym bags.

  8. Most companies will outline their plan for the interview and may enjoy a little ice-breaking small talk to start.

  9. Follow their lead however do not initiate a lot of small talk yourself.

  10. If you are nervous, let the interviewer know - everyone understands how nerve-racking the interview process can be!
