It is often said that having an online affiliate business requires little more than you generating traffic in order to earn an income. Well this is partially true insofar as you do not need to create, ship or store any affiliate products since this is done by the product creator. But if you measure success more by the ability to continue turning a profit over a long period of time there are other components you will need to supply as well. To maintain a consistent and healthy flow of affiliate sales there are 5 key elements your business must have in place and can only be supplied by you.
Promotional Mindset
Remember, if you do not ask you do not get! The only way you are going to make any affiliate sales is by promoting your products. You are a marketer and this is what you do, therefore get comfortable promoting your products and do not ever feel apologetic about doing so! This industry is not for the shy!
Copy Writing
Persuasion by print is one of the most critical skills to master online since this will be your primary means of contact with others. Writing sales copy can be learned and is simply a matter of feeling passionate about the affiliate products you promote and putting it into words. Remember, if you do not feel this passion for what you offer others, than you probably should not be promoting it!
People Skills
As mentioned earlier on marketing is not typically an industry that is a good fit for shy people. On the other hand if you are somewhat 'timid' by nature, there will be very little, if any, face to face interaction when working online. If you can put thoughts into words and have the desire you will succeed but you will need to learn how to communicate with others!
Business Building
Your business will be comprised of various 'components' that serve a particular purpose in your overall strategy. Each component will need to be developed and put into place when and where needed for your purposes. Whether it is collecting names for list building purposes, email marketing or traffic generation just to mention a few, all these functions play a vital role in your success. Consider these, each and every one, the 'building blocks' of your online business! They all in their own way serve a vital purpose! Developing tactics and techniques that work best for you is your responsibility!

Now we are pulling together all the tactics or 'building blocks' we use in different areas of the business into a smoothly operating and reliable system. The idea is to work as efficiently as possible while achieving the maximum results! An online affiliate business really can provide you the opportunity to earn great income by supplying you a proven system already in place. The affiliate products you promote are created and supported by someone else leaving you only the responsibility of attracting buyers. However if you measure success in terms of a consistently profitability business there are certain intangibles needed that you and only you can supply. Your ability to maintain a high level of affiliate sales will be reliant upon successfully putting in place the 5 key elements discussed above. Considering that all you need to add to this business model are people skills, common sense and some basis business planning, it is little wonder it is so popular.
