Spy Assessment Test
Please select the best possible answer for the questions posted below. Other answers are not necessarily wrong, but one answer is better than the others. At the end, determine the total score and check out if you have what it takes.
- You are selected to become a spy. During spy training, one of your fellow students, who you really like, asks about your background. What do you do?
a) He's a fellow spy who you trust, so you tell him about your family and where you grew up.
b) You cannot trust anybody, so you just make up something.
c) You are cautious with your personal information, so you share some general, but true information.
d) You give him a suspicious look and tell him to get lost.
- You suspect you're being followed. What do you do?
a) You vary your route to shake off your shadow, if there is one.
b) You stop to look in a shop's window. You check the reflection to see if someone is watching you.
c) You continuously look around to see if you recognize faces you've seen before.
d) You go to the person you suspect and confront him.
- You are assigned to get a message to another agent. How do you go about it?
a) You simply walk up to him, shake his hand, and give him the papers. It doesn't look suspicious because many everyday people do it.
b) You both carry similar briefcases. Yours has a message. You stand beside him, put your case next to his, and as you leave, you take his briefcase with you.
c) You leave the message at a predetermined drop. To signal that you left the message, you put some chalk on a specific signpost.
d) You sign the message to him with your hands using sign language.
- You are undercover and invited to attend an important meeting on a subject that is of vital importance to your operation. How do you collect the information?
a) You take your notepad with you and write down everything that's being said.
b) You wear a wire that sends the information to fellow agents outside the building. This has the added bonus of them coming to your rescue if the wire is discovered.
c) You ask the boss to send you a memo.
d) You commit as much information as you can to memory. When you're in a safe place you reproduce as much as you can remember.
- Are you...
a) Single?
b) Dating?
c) Married?
d) Divorced?
- They grabbed and blindfolded you, stuffed you in the trunk of a car, and you are now being taken to a place for interrogation. What do you do?
a) I will tell them nothing. Zip my mouth. They won't get anything out of me!
b) I have studied my cover over and over and I will simply tell them anything that's in line with my cover story.
c) In the end, spying is just a job. I value my life, so at first sign of anything resembling torture, I will tell them what I know. Sorry "M".
d) I will play tough. Kick and scream. Spit them in the eye if I can. I. am. the. toughest.
- Why do you want to become a spy?
a) Big bucks.
b) The excitement and thrill of living a secret life.
c) Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.
d) To become famous.
- What's an effective way to make sure that a message you want to send is not read by enemy agents?
a) Write it in invisible ink.
b) Use a cypher to change the message to an unreadable code.
c) Put the message in a secret compartment in your briefcase.
d) Hide the message in the (innocent) text of a letter you send.
- Someone comes up to you and says he's Bond... James Bond. You...
a) ... ask Mr. Connery for his autograph.
b) ... wink at the man and say you've become a spy too. It's so nice to meet someone with the same interests!
c) ... tell him that you're Blofeld.
d) ... drink Martinis with him. Shaken, not stirred (of course!).
- You have been undercover in a criminal organization. The leader likes you, and asks you to do something criminal, so he knows you can be trusted. What do you do?
a) You cannot blow your cover, so you'll do anything he asks!
b) You're a law abiding citizen and a patriot, so you say you won't do it.
c) You will do as he asks, but draw the line at hurting or killing people. If that blows your cover, so be it.
d) You ask the leader for time to consider it and you confer with Head Quarters.

Do you have it in you to become a spy?
Total score is 20 or below.
Ouch: I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but there's very little chance that your future is in spying. That doesn't mean you cannot enjoy spy movies and play with gadgets. You just cannot become a spy!
Total score is 21-40.
Not bad: You may have what it takes, but it'll be a lot of hard work for you. Don't be discouraged. There's plenty of spy field work to do, but while you can become a spy, chances are slim you'll join the ranks of the crème de la crème, the Non Official Cover Operative (NOC).
Total score is 41 or higher.
Excellent: You have the wits and guts and creative thinking that is needed to become a Master Spy. Still, it will be hard work because there is nothing easy about spying. It's a tough and dangerous job and you will have to make sacrifices. You can reach your goal, if you're willing to put in the work.
