Do not be a victim of these career myths, because if you believe them, you are losing out on loads of brilliant career opportunities. These myths could stem from your own cynicism, from fear or even from what other people tell you. It does not matter where it originated from, just make sure it does not keep you back.

Career Myth 1: You cannot get a career doing something you love

There is no reason why you cannot have a career in the field that you are passionate about. It is exceptionally possible for you to do something that you enjoy, and still make a living from it. Does the singer hate singing, or does the poet hate expressing himself with words? There are a lot of ways to make money and there are all sorts of careers out there. You can have a career that you love, it just may require a bit of looking.

Career Myth 2: There is incredible risk changing careers now

There is risk in various things, not just when switching careers. There are even risks involved when driving your car, but does that mean that you should not drive your car? No, all it means is that you should take necessary steps to limit the risk and move on. Do not let the fear of the risks stop you.  

Since you do not know what may happen in the new career, you may end up thinking about all the negative things which could happen. Since you know all about the career that you have at the moment, you are at ease with it and there is nothing for you to fear. However, at the thought of leaving that job that you are comfortable with for something that is different and unknown, you may find yourself thinking of worst case scenarios like, "What if 'xyz' happens..." However, by staying in your comfort zone, you do not grow and you miss out on the exciting experiences you would have had.  

Career Myth 3: I am waiting for my dream job

Sometimes our conditions for 'the perfect job' may be not viable  like, "I want to sit in a gigantic office, working 4 hours in the day, and all I have to do is do a little paperwork and still get paid well." Now, that does not mean that the ideal occupation for you does not exist, but it is a waste to just sit and wait until your dream job falls in your lap. There are probably many magnificent careers out there that would suite you, but just because they do not perfectly meet all your criteria, you may let it pass you and end up missing out. So, it is better to be flexible and be open minded than wait forever for that 'ideal job'.
