If you want to be successful in your life and achieve the outcomes that you desire, then you have to have some sort of personal goals. In fact, you should always have some short, medium, and long term goals in your sights. Unfortunately, the majority of people in this world do not make goals for themselves consistently. But the minority of people, who set these goals, are some of the most successful people around.

If you want to start setting personal goals and achieving them then follow these following 6 tips for success.

  1. Write down your goals.

You may have a whole bunch of goals floating around in your head, but if you don't write those goals down then you don't have a visual that makes them all the more real. This is really the first step in the personal goal process. It takes those dreams and wishes you have in your head, and gives them a solid direction that you can see.

  1. Figure out which goals are most important to you.

You can achieve every goal on your list, but you can't achieve them all at one time. The best way to achieve a certain goal is to put your energy on that specific goal until you reach it. Then you can move on to the next one. So figure out which desires and dreams you want the most, then put those at the top of your list.

  1. Be specific with your goals.

Instead of having broad goals try making them very specific. This gives you an exact focal point to work towards. If your goal is broad then you may end up directing your energy towards too many focal points. It's much easier to direct your energy towards one specific point. So if you want a car, then decide the exact car you want - including the color, make, and model.

  1. Make your goals short, medium, and long term goals.

Making a plan for how long it should take to achieve your goals will give you the momentum to keep moving towards them. Short term goals generally should be between 1-2 weeks. Medium term goals should be for around 2-6 months. And long term goals should be attainable within 6-12 months, or a little longer.

  1. Use your smaller goals to help you reach your long term goals.

Your shorter goals should help you achieve your medium term goals. And your medium term goals should help you achieve your long term goals. This breaks your long term goals into easy to reach fragments. So if your goal is to lose 80 pounds this year, then plan to lose 5 pounds in the next few weeks. After that plan to lose another 40 pounds in the next 6 months. And then plan to lose the rest of the weight in the following months.

  1. Celebrate your achievements!

When you reach any goal, celebrate it. Make sure you soak up that good feeling you get when you have accomplished something you set out to do. This will push you on to your next achievement with a feeling of "I can do this!" and an equal desire to do it.
