The notoriously nimble carp, prized among anglers dedicated to holiday specimen hunting, is a worthy opponent indeed even for the most advanced fisherman. Hooking a fair-sized carp takes the right carp fishing tackle first of all, shrewd and timely tactics second, and of course, plenty of patience as well.
Carp Fishing Tackle
To even stand a match against some of the larger carp specimens found in freshwater bodies around the continent of Europe, you will need to purchase a proper carp fishing tackle set. Plenty of experienced anglers have captured carp as large as 20 kilos at times. And some of the largest carp on record have exceeded an astonishing 40 kilos! So, clearly, buying the most reliable rods, reels, and baits you can afford within reason greatly increases your chance of breaking the record books with a trophy catch of your own.
Rods
For starters, you will need to procure a series of sturdy carbon-composite rods. Thankfully, an entire industry has developed to service the sport of carp fishing specifically. And some of the specifications you should search for in your selection of rods ought to include, at the very least, a 3.6 meter reach. Also, try to find rods with a test curve of at least 1.4 kilos. And online, you can find some quality rods available through shops such as the Redfins Angling catalogue among dozens of others.
Reels
There is no shortage of sagely advice on the subject of what constitutes proper carp fishing reels. But suffice it to say, you will at the very least require reels with an anti-backlash capability. Another important specification to keep in mind is an "auto cast" system. This feature will make pulling in your carp fishing line substantially easier after a long holiday out on the water's surface.
Baits
Even the most elaborate carp fishing tackle is useless without utilizing the best baits. This is especially true because the carp is a particularly finicky species of fish. Some of the baits to look for include the different brands of pre-composed spod baits. You could create your own spod concoction of course. But the added convenience (and affordability) of the different types of carp baits for sale in any outdoorsman centre makes your choices much easier.
