Visiting The Beijing Aquarium

If you want to see one of the great inland aquariums in the world, the Beijing Aquarium is the place to see. It is located in a separate section of the Beijing Zoo and is a destination place for millions of visitors each year.
Even though it is just over ten years old, it has managed to stock its tanks with thousands of types of fish from the seas and oceans. As you wander through the seven great exhibition halls of the aquarium, you will notice that each hall is designed to show off a different kind of sea life.
For example, one of the halls showcases various kinds of whales and other marine mammals while another is dedicated to the many varieties of sharks. And yet another highlights the coral reefs and the various species of fish that support them and are supported by them.
But, the hundred and twenty thousand square meter aquarium is more than just a place for tourists to visit and view the great variety of sea animals, even though that would be enough. They also have daily shows with dolphins and sea lions, to entertain the visitors.
In addition, scientific research is done there as well. Specifically, the researchers there look at how the various species interact with and affect their surrounding ecological environment.
Beijing is an exciting place and is generally safe, but it is not for the timid. If you don't like being in and around crowds, you may find it disquieting. The streets are generally full of people, especially during the midday hours and early evening. The city also has a reputation for currency scams. As a result, the casual tourist should always be on the alert and watchful for retailers and street vendors attempting to cheat them out of their money.
Inner city travel is straightforward enough. But, even though you will find it easy to get around the city by bus and subway, the taxis are so inexpensive that you may choose to take them instead.
Beijing is also a city that can get very hot with temperatures exceeding the 100 degree Fahrenheit mark in some of the warmer months. And parts of it are dirty as well. But if you are adventurous, you may find yourself falling in love with the city.
Since it was built, the aquarium has turned out to be a great draw to the city with more than eight million visitors having passed through its halls. If you love sea life and fish, this is an aquarium that you have to see.
