One thing I love about drawing fantasy arts is that you can turn all your imaginations into reality. The celestial beast or dragons is among the most favorite images of all times. With the fire it breaths, the scaly coverings on its body and the wings that make it fly, made it look very cool. Each time I hear about fantasy art, the single thing that comes into my mind is this fire breathing beast. In this short article, I will teach you how to picture out images of these fantasy creatures and drawing them as well.

So, how to draw dragons? Step one on drawing dragons is to try to find a photo as reference. Though this step may be neglected by an expert artist, this requirement really helps beginners in drawing not just dragons but also other mystical creatures in general. Any basic knowledge in drawing curve lines and shading is already a great tool in perfecting your image on a clean sheet of paper. Together with your reference image (whether a picture or simply your imagination, draw the parts of the dragon through the shapes you always encounter. The body of the dragon usually varies based on your reference and how wide your imagination is. For example, Chinese celebrates their Year with the dragon dance, observe that body of their dragons can be compared to that of a snake. Some dragons have humanoid form with big muscles and stiff appearance. Draw the arms with either conic or cylindrical shapes then add ovals for the biceps and triceps. Do the same way for the legs. The number of fingers usually doesn't matter so long as it appears cool. The tail of a dragon is drawn with an elongated conic shape which is slightly bend on the other hand two intersecting curves is less difficult to draw. A dragon may or may not have wings, but if you prefer to have a pair on your drawing, you may illustrate it with two connected triangles forming a diamond. And finally the head, most of the efforts is needed on the head when you are drawing a dragon. The head of the dragon sometimes reflects on its attitude. Use two ovals with different sizes for the mouth and a circle for the remaining regions of its head.

Now that the outline for your image is done, it is time to add the details. Darken the lines that are to be used in giving a clearer picture of your dragon and erase the extra lines. Draw scales on the body with tiny c-like curves or maybe you cab do the other way; enhance the body texture with significant lines and v shape lines. You may draw hair on the end portion of the tail and to the back of its head. Emphasize the muscles on the arms, feet as well as in the chest area. Draw exoskeleton to assist its wings and back. Add horns on the head and emphasize its face and make it as a fierce or perhaps a friendly dragon.

Though you're already done drawing your dragon to appear similar from you reference, you can still improve it by using extra details. The variation of shading can be use to give a depth and contrast on your drawing. With smokes moving out from its mouth and the background of your final sketch will make the entire thing looks real.
