Many sites claim to provide 100% safe and secure online dating environments. Problem is: Internet swindlers are getting much smarter and better at their game, so much so that somehow, even with all these security measures in place, some just manage to bypass them. See, much as Afroromance (just like every online dating site) also have measures in place to curb these internet cons, one thing I liked about their "Online Safety" page on was they keep it real.

"Report People Unsuitable for Dating" is one of the headlines on their security page. See, Afroromance is a site that is practical about their security measures and have realized that online safety can only be achieved if we online daters exercise caution too. "Never, never, never, never send money to anyone for any reason.", is on the page and In BOLD. Yes, security measures have been put in place but why would I send money to someone I have never met? That is very practical don’t you think?

No site can claim to be 100% free of cons … So Afroromance spells out to you how such people can swindle you of your hard-earned cash such as "Requesting money (or a "loan") for an emergency, medical purposes, sick relatives, airfares, visas, etc." It’s all plain and simple. Whenever I am on this site or any other for that matter and for some reason, a member seems a bit off and fishy, I just click on the "Report Concern" link.

When dating, our emotions may get the best of us. We want love here… now… faster. And depending on how desperate one is to find love, we end up trusting everyone who tells us any kind words or offers some flirtatious compliments. Fellow members, I think even if we are looking for love that badly, all Afroromance is asking us to do is use common sense while dating.

I live by the "Better safe than sorry" adage. If a person is sincere enough, then an explanation like: "I can’t send you money because a lot of people have gotten conned this way" fly. Instead of letting someone that harassed me or some suspicious member bother me and the rest, I just report them and leave it all to the site administrators. I exercise caution on Afroromance, just like on any dating site. I am an active participant in my own online safety by helping the Afroromance team provide a safe dating environment for me and other online daters. I keep it real. I report all suspicion!
