Introduction and Definition

As human beings, we interpret the events of our lives through various lenses shaped by our perceptions and perspectives. The way we view the world influences our understanding of everything that happens within it.

In our quest to make sense of events, we often draw conclusions—connecting occurrences to perceived causes. This process either leads us to seek knowledge or reinforces our existing beliefs. However, it raises profound questions: Can we truly comprehend everything in the world? Is it possible to define what chance is? What does it mean to claim that something has occurred by chance?

Understanding Chance

The term "chance" is often used as a conceptual placeholder to describe the probability of an event occurring without deliberate design or a guiding force. This interpretation negates the sovereignty of God over all existence, reducing occurrences to random manifestations devoid of purpose. However, every event—seen or unseen—has always existed within a divine order.

If we assert that something has happened by chance, we imply:

It occurred without purpose, contradicting the principle that every event serves a role in the grand scheme of existence.

It lacks an originating intelligence or design.

It neither fulfills a need nor aligns with any intended outcome.

It was unintended, yet even accidents serve a purpose within a larger context.

What Chance Is Not

Chance is not an entity or force. It has no power, intelligence, or ability to influence reality. It cannot cause events to occur or bring the unseen into existence.

The notion of chance is, therefore, a descriptive term—a linguistic tool used to express a lack of understanding or a rejection of divine purpose. It is often invoked by those who struggle to reconcile reality with their beliefs, overlooking the sovereignty of God in the unfolding of events.

Creation and the Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory attempts to explain the origin of the universe by suggesting that it emerged spontaneously, without design or intention. If one were to accept this theory at face value, it would imply:

That chance created the universe—an assertion that would require chance to possess intelligence and power, which is illogical.

That the universe lacks intentional design, contradicting the evident order and complexity within it.

That human existence is purposeless—an assertion that dismisses the intrinsic value and meaning of life.

Such reasoning is fundamentally flawed. The idea that the universe emerged from nothing, by mere chance, is inconsistent with the observable reality of design, order, and purpose.

The Illusion of Good and Bad Chance

The concept of "good" or "bad" chance is rooted in human interpretation rather than objective truth. Those who believe in luck attribute favorable outcomes to good chance and misfortunes to bad chance, rather than recognizing divine providence.

By definition:

"Good chance" would imply an event occurring without design yet resulting in a desirable outcome.

"Bad chance" would mean an unintended occurrence that leads to harm or misfortune.

Both definitions reveal a human-centric perspective, where events are judged based on personal desires rather than divine purpose. Such beliefs stem from either a lack of understanding of causality as outlined in divine wisdom or a conscious rejection of faith.

Conclusion

To believe in chance is to deny the wisdom, power, and benevolence of God. His sovereignty governs all existence—both visible and unseen. The reliance on mathematical probabilities to explain reality is insufficient when compared to the guiding hand of divine providence.

Faith and chance are mutually exclusive. Where faith prevails, there is no reliance on chance. Where chance is upheld, faith is diminished. True wisdom lies in recognizing that nothing happens by chance; everything unfolds according to the divine will, guided by the wisdom, power, and benevolence of God Almighty.
