There are seven lakes in the area, of which Lake Wawasee is the largest. It is the largest natural lake in the state. Lake Wawasee is a spring fed lake with exposed springs flowing into Wawasee from south, west, and east sides. The lake is a large natural lake southeast of Syracuse in Kosciusko County, Indiana. Lake Wawasee is unusually clear for a Midwest lake, with over 3000 acres of clean, clear water. Lake Wawasee is hydraulically connected to and at the same elevation as Syracuse Lake, which lies just to the west in the same basin; the two lakes and their associated wetlands cover almost 8 square miles.

Lake Wawasee is separated into two basins by a shallow sandbar, and restriction in water circulation and environmental differences between the two basins may be responsible for observed patterns in larval distribution

With almost six square miles, the wide expanse of Lake Wawasee is ideal for motor boating, water skiing, sailing, swimming, and fishing, though it is a great lake it can be very crowded on the weekends.

Lake Wawasee is subject to the regulatory jurisdiction of the DNR under IC 14-26-2 (the 'Lakes Preservation Act') and to the jurisdiction of the Commission under AOPA, and is among the lakes where licensure is required

Lake Wawasee is typical in structure of natural lakes of the glaciated portions of the upper Midwest. The lake is 870 feet above sea level with a number of sunken islands and all varieties offish common to Northern Indiana lakes. It is a very clear lake and has very little wood or usual shoreline structure. The lake is big (3,410 acres) and it is deep; hence, there is plenty of room for bass to roam and multiply. Lake Wawasee is a tried-and-proven bass producer that occasionally yields fish up to 20 inches. The lake is routinely patrolled by conservation officers.

Lake Wawasee is located in Northern Indiana. This is a 3000+ acre all sports lake and is a popular weekend and vacation spot attracting people from Fort Wayne,South Bend, Indianapolis, and Chicago.

Since Wawasee is home to two yacht clubs, swarms of sailboats with brightly colored sails converge every weekend to compete in the regattas

On Sundays between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Lake Wawasee is home to a 'boat-in' Christian worship service near Oakwood, where the preacher preaches from a boat anchored off the shore, offerings are collected in fish nets, and worshipers often come in their swimsuits.

The community of Wawasee is a populated place located in Kosciusko County.
