Bowling is so popular in the United States that there can hardly be a state that does not host a tournament or two. There are many clubs and associations that promote bowling and encourage players to participate in tournaments. The prize money is growing day by day and is a big lure for more and more people to jump into the fray.
There are amateur bowling tournaments as well as professional ones. Tenpin bowling events are, in fact, held throughout the year. There are tournaments for adults, senior bowlers, junior bowlers, and women bowlers. Some tournaments even invite players from other countries to participate. Most tournaments have an entry fee. There are tournaments that last for a week or even more. The format for bowling games and tournaments is still evolving – major tournaments holders keep announcing changes in format and ranking systems. Points are allocated to players on the basis of criteria like “scratch-all events” and “30-game totals.”
Nowadays, a number of tournaments offer registration online. Moreover, apart from physical bowling tournaments, there are a number of online bowling games that have mushroomed over the years. For people who cannot go to an actual bowling alley, the next best thing is to play an online bowling game, which has its own rules and regulations and point systems. The online versions of the game come with their own instructions; for instance, they direct players as to which keys of the keyboard they need to use in order to make a particular move or when to right-click and left click the mouse to obtain the desired result. Bowling games are also available in CD versions and videotapes.
However, while online versions are fun, there is nothing to beat the thrill of walking into a bowling alley, sticking one’s fingers into the bowling ball, and having a go at the pins.
