Sometimes the best games are the most simple. Sure I love playing my PS3 with it's superb graphics but other times I want to swap Grand Theft Auto for some simple Space Invaders, Tetris or Pac-man. Yes sometimes I just long for some arcade retro games. Anyone who has ever played one of these games knows how it feels when you "die", you want another game because you KNOW you can beat your previous score, or so you think, and before you know it you've been playing for a couple of hours. The thing that is so good about the arcade retro games is they are so addictive, probably more so than the fancy up to date games.
I've been playing computer games, video games or whatever you want to call them since i was 8 years old and I got my Commodore 16. Most of the games then were the addictive type of today, Pac-man type games etc.
Since that day I have moved up and on to a Commodore 64, Atari ST, Sega Game Gear, Nintendo Game Boy, SNES, PS1, PS2 and finally my PS3. However, throughout the whole time I have never stopped enjoying playing the simplest of games where I am sure I can beat the highest score. Don't get me wrong, when I get my latest PS3 game I'm a big kid who just wants to go home and get it on. Then I sit and ooh and aah and the graphics, hoping that the game play matches my expectations and there has been many times over the years that I have been badly let down, where the programmers made the game look great but forgot the vital ingredient, game play.
So while all the arcade retro games look dated especially by todays standards the one thing most of them have is the amazing ability to get you to play them over and over again, despite the fact that they are not the most visually appealing. Game play always wins in the end.
I was born in 1977 and live in Scotland. I've been playing computer games since i was 8 and love then now as much as when I started.
