The Grand Tetons located in Wyoming was just a couple of hours away from Yellowstone. On several ocassions when not working in Yellowstone I would make trips to the Tetons. Seeing these majestic mountains was inspiring within itself.

The Jenny Lake trail to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls was a favorite hike. I wanted to hike more trails but never had the time available to tackle the longer trails. When I go back this next summer I am sure that I will find the time though.

Jenny Lake Trail is a relatively flat trail that wraps around Jenny Lake, which is nestled at the base of the mountains. There are a few ups and downs but nothing no amatuer hiker can’t handle. It continues to be an easy hike all the way to Hidden Falls. If you choose to go to Inspiration Point, it is an uphill climb from Hidden Falls.

This trail is full of trees, so a shade covers most of it. I would always take the lake path to hidden falls, then on the hike back I would always take the horse trail back. I wouldn’t always take the extra trip up to Inspiration Point, but the times I did tackle that uphill climb, it was well worth it.

On the first trip up to Inspiration Point we decided to have us a little picnic lunch while sitting on the mountain side. Along with the panoramic views, we get a visitor, a little squirrel hangs out, running around, as he was just a pet. I know your not supposed to feed the animals but I reach into my trail mix bag and pic out a nut. I toss the nut over and the squirrel grabs it up and disappears for a moment. Before we know it he is back, wanting more. I get a couple of good pictures of him before we start our journey back.

Hiking in the Tetons has been one of my favorite places to hike. I also did tackle a few other trails, one of which is Two Ocean Lake Trail. Named that because the Lake was originally thought to drain in both oceans, being so close to the continental divide. Was found out later though it does not. This is another relatively easy trail until the ending. You have an uphill climb that can challenge anyone. But once you reach the top the panoramic views with the Mountain chain in front of you is breathtaking.

There are two routes back to the vehicles, we decide to take the other side of the lake on the way back. We found ourselves in the middle of mosquito alley. No time to stop and swat, we just kept walking at a brisk pace, even jogging trying to get through it as quickly as possible. Mosquito repellant didn’t even seem to phase these beast. We protect ourselves with extra clothing though. So from parking the truck, we started the trail from the east side of the lake, I would recommend that east side should be your return path as well.

I travel the country working at national parks, spending time there, exploring all I can explore.
