Altinkum, Didim is a small resort on the Aegean coast of Turkey, in an area called Didyma, between Kusadasi and Bodrum. Altinkum means 'Gold Sand' which is exactly what you get mile upon mile of lovely sandy beaches. To get there you fly into either Izmir or Bodrum/Milas airports, followed by a two and a half or one and half hour transfer respectively. Most airlines now fly to Bodrum from the UK and most other European countries. Travellers from outside will Europe usually fly into Istanbul and then transfer to Bodrum. The Aegean shores of Turkey are among the loveliest landscape in the country. The magnificent coastline, lapped by the clear water of the Aegean Sea, abounds in vast and pristine beaches surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pinewoods. Whether you prefer idyllic fishing harbours, popular holiday villages or the remains of ancient civilizations attesting to more than 5000 years of history, culture and mythology, this region offers a holiday with something for everyone - nature lovers, sun worshippers, photographers, sports enthusiasts, sailors and archaeologists.
Altinkum - Especially suitable for family holidays:
Altinkum is located On the Aegean coast of Turkey, around 130 miles south from Izmir and 50 miles north west of Bodrum airport. Altinkum is a busy holiday resort behind large bay of soft golden sand with of sunbeds and water sports, backed by the gentle hills. The beach has particularly shallow waters making Altinkum especially suitable for family holidays but also great for couples too. The beach offers sunbeds and a range of water sports.
Altinkum - A good range of tavernas and restaurants:
The centre of town is almost largely modern with a pedestrianised sea front area. There is also a good range of bars and restaurants along the waterfront offering international and local cuisine.
Altinkum - A good holiday base for exploring the local area:
Altinkum is a good holiday base for exploring the local area. The sights at Ephesus (the country's most famous historic site) Pamukkale, and Bodrum are easily reached from Altinkum. Transfer from Altinkum to Bodrum airport is approximately one hour.
Altinkum - Great investment potential:
Increasingly popular with many house buyers, and likely to become ever more so when it joins the EU, Turkey's low house prices have drawn comparisons with the Spanish property market in the 1970s, and it is touted as the next hot spot by aficionados. Turkey appeals to a range of people, not only investors, so the market should enjoy a long term increase in property prices. The dynamics of the property market are very similar to those of Spain 20 or more years ago and Turkey could well emulate this growth and development pattern.
In 2004 alone, property prices rose by around 30 per cent and doubled in some areas depending on the property and location, particularly in the coastal towns. Last year you could buy a small two-bedroom villa in need of renovation for £40,000 GBP. Today new build villas start from £75,000 GBP and for a nice villa with sea view prices start from £100,000 GBP. All in all, prices have increased but the build quality is of a higher standard and properties in Turkey are still sold at bargain prices.
