For a person who’s just beginning to discover the adventures of camping, having good experiences during the first few trips is crucial. It can mean the difference between having a lifetime of enjoyable outdoor experiences and never wanting to try camping again. People with no camping experience usually associate camping with beautiful sunny days, gentle breeze, perfect temperatures, and curious animals. While all these may be true on a good camping day, it is a fact that the weather won’t necessarily cooperate with you. A lot of campers inevitably encounter some hassles but still manage to have a good experience. The key is to find applicable solutions to potential problems.
The most critical factors that will make your break your trip is preparation. Coming prepared with the right gear, a nice companion, and a good attitude will ensure that your comfort level will be maintained throughout the trip. To do this, it is important to use a camping checklist. This helps prevent any necessities from being left at home or at the car.
The Cooking
Most campers do their own cooking; it is just part of the experience. Before you embark on a camping trip, make sure you have the basics. Bring water, plates, a plastic cup, and a pot. And of course, you need to bring some food. Most campers also know that it’s a good idea to bring some toiletries including the toilet roll.
The Tarp
Using a tarp for the tent is also recommended. If the tarp is located under the tent, ground moisture can’t come up. And if another tarp is placed above the tent, then water cannot pass through even during heavy rainfall. Tie the tarp above to a few trees so water will have somewhere to run off to.
Experienced campers know that tarps are important. It can be used for a variety of items aside from the tent. For example, it can also cover the table, firewood, the bikes, and even the dog. A large tarp enables you to cover a good amount of area as well so you can sit by the fire even during rainfall.
While sleeping bags are not necessarily important during -20 degree weather, it is still a good idea to bring it to keep you warm as you sleep. The weather is still unpredictable even during the summer season. It can also become quite chilly at nightfall so bring a blanket as well.
The Tent
And lastly is the tent, one of the most critical aspects of camping. The first things you need to do when you stop is to look for a good spot. Try to find a level area because it will make the tent set-up easier. Remember not to set-up camp on a low area especially during rainy season. Otherwise, you might find your tent and yourself soaked up with 2-3 inches of water.
The quality and the durability of the camping tent can make the difference between a good and a bad experience. Released in 1993, Oztent has become the best touring tent available in Australia today. It can easily be set-up by one person in 30 seconds or even less.
