Marine fishes are one of the major sources of food for humans. It is caught using a systematic method called fishing. This practice dates back in the ancient times as the method of harvesting seafoods. It is still being used today, although made better, as means to catch fish in the seas.
There are now different techniques discovered which includes trapping, hand gathering, netting, angling and many others. In later years, fishing not only was a method of gathering fish for food but became an excellent form of recreation and sport also.
Recreational fishing has certain rules and regulations which participants should follow. Such policies are strictly enforced to make sure they are kept safe throughout the activity, and also to protect the marine life and preserve nature.
It is common practice in recreational fishing to use equipments such as hooks, big fish reels, rods, lines and baits. Angling is another method which uses a hook for catching fish. The catch and release is sometimes implemented in angling. This means that fishermen should release the catch afterwards.
In sports fishing, the objective is to have the biggest catch in order to win rather than catching for the intention of having food. Winners are awarded in a monetary value or for certain titles. Common catches for sports fishing include shark, tuna, sailfish, tarpon and other species of fish which is determined by the sports organizers.
Whether you do it for a living or for recreational, you must have the proper equipments in order to achieve a successful catch. The most important is the fish reels. These tools come in different varieties in terms of size, design, shape and the fish weight.

Fishing reels are classified between fixed spool reels and conventional reels. Fixed spool reels are usually mounted in fixed position while conventional reels consists revolving spools commonly used for salt water fishing.
The two classifications have four different types. These are the bait casting, fly fishing, spin casting and spinning reel. All of these are designed to catch fish while only differing on how they are deployed in fishing.
Spin casting reels are commonly used by amateur fishermen. It is the simplest type. It is fitted inside an enclosure with a small opening where the lines extend. A spindle is attached inside the enclosure used to lock the line in place.
The spinning reel is the most common we see in most fishermen. These are not contained in an enclosure. Instead, a crank is used in order to release or spool the lines. This type easily tangles unlike the spin casting reel.
Bait casting reel is quite difficult to use and are not recommended for beginners. It requires high level of casting skills in order to use it effectively. It uses reel weights in order to pull the line from the rods.
Fly fishing reel is another type which needs excellent skills. This type is used by professional fishermen and used for fly fishing competitions. It is the most expensive type of reel.
Since fishing reels requires different level of skills, it is important to know how skillful you are and decide on that factor. Your choice of fishing reel should be suited to your skill level and should be comfortable for you to use.
