It really doesn’t get any easier than this guys.

Have you ever spat out something so mundane that it barely seems worth wasting breath on, but had someone (either a friend, or maybe a perfect stranger) respond with "I know!" or "You’re right" or "That’s just what I was thinking!"

This is called mutual agreement, and it’s such a simple concept that it took me awhile just to realize how powerful it really was. Weird, right?

Mutual agreement is simply saying something that someone else is thinking, or can relate to, or will react to. It’s the act of creating a basic but powerful high point, one that can easily build up to a deeper connection. It’s just as potent in a club as it is in a bookstore.

Here’s what happened to me today. I was at the cafeteria / dining area / whatever you want to call it on the main floor of my office building. It was too cold to go out and nothing down there sounded particularly good to me (just another workday in Chicago ). I decide to get a hot sandwich, so I order it, and realize that a pretty cute girl is in line in front of me.

Whatever, I tell myself, she’s cute, but what do I say? I’m tired, my mind is on work, I’ll just let it go.

Yes, even I think like this sometimes.

So the guy brings her sandwich up, and it looks really good. It’s some kind of tuna thing with cheese and bruschetta – pretty tasty looking. I wish I had actually gotten that instead of the sandwich the guy said. So, I simply speak my mind, without concerning myself over how anyone will react, I just say:

"Wow… I think I’m honestly jealous of your sandwich!"

She looks at me, as if to ask "What? Are you serious?"

So again, I respond in the moment.

"Weird, right? But that’s the first really good thing I’ve seen down here today."

To which she laughs and says "I know, right! I think I walked around for 5 minutes before discovering it!"

And boom, instant high point. Mutual attraction.

I continue talking about how I like to go to Chipotle or this little bodega on the street corner but it’s just too cold outside, to which she talks about how this is what Chicago weather is like. This is a perfect lead into my core values – the reasons I’m in Chicago and why I put up with whttp://chicagofalcon.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpeather I truly don’t enjoy.

It was a somewhat long conversation, but ended up with a solid connection with a girl I didn’t even know 10 minutes earlier! This is the power of mutual attraction!

I have to transcribe more of it before I forget it, but for right now I need to get some sleep – when there are only a few people at work on this weird week between holidays, I end up working especially long hours. But I’ll post the rest on here soon!
