Situated on the majestic river Rhine, Dusseldorf is an important city on Germany’s map. It is one of the vertebrae that constitute the backbone of the state’s economy, and it has everything a tourist could need.

Probably the most attractive attribute of this city is the ale they serve. This is not a joke, for the city’s inhabitants are quite proud of their distinctive "Altbier". The translation is "Old style beer", and it is only valid for beer made in this city and in the surrounding vicinity. It’s a rare category of amber-colored ale that you absolutely need to try if you go there. Each restaurant and bar you enter will serve this type of beer.

Let me underline one thing though: if you go to the neighboring town of Cologne after you have visited Dusseldorf, don’t ever say to the locals that the beer you drank there was better, because there is a strong rivalry among the two cities when it comes to beer, sports and beautiful women. Cologne is double the measure of Dusseldorf, but the latter is a tough little bugger!

Another feature that this town is famous for is the old district, named "Altstadt" by the locals. It’s not the fact that they have a lot of structures older than the making of the automobile... It’s the bars and restaurants! They are so numerous and so crowded, that some guys call the Altstadt "the longest bar on the planet". So believe me when I say that the nightlife in Dusseldorf is an experience to remember. If you want to experience the old district throughout the day though, you should still have a nice experience, as you’ll find some pretty interesting buildings to see, like the Schlosstum (the tower castle), Heinrich Heine’s birth place and more.

Besides the Altstadt, there are plenty interesting places to visit, like the botanical garden, for one. It’s a vast, marvelous park, owned and nourished by the University of Dusseldorf, and it contains a large collection of specimens, added here from all continents and climates.

If you fancy shopping in style, visit the Konigsallee, a shopping alley which will fully appease even the most pretentious customers. It is known to many as "the Champs Elysees of Germany".

You may also want to pay a visit to the Film Museum, which is gigantic and is quite well equipped. It will certainly be a pleasant experience for film lovers.

If you want a comfy place to sleep during your stay, you are able to select between a wide range of hotels and hostels, from one star to 5 stars. Costs go up along with the quality, obviously. For example, the restaurant in the tall tower by the Rhine is really expensive, but having lunch at an altitude of almost 200 meters and seeing the entire town from there is surely worth it.

Dusseldorf is a beautiful place to see, populated by friendly people, has good beer and many other of things to see. What more could a tourist want?

Hotel Central Dusseldorf is one of the best hotels in Dusseldorf.
