Prague has become a favored destination for tourists from across the world. The capital city of the Czech Republic is dotted with world-class museums, historic chapels, bustling shopping districts and trendy nightclubs. It’s also a relatively easy city for travelers to navigate. There is some important Prague tourist information, though, that you need to know to make your trip to this European city a successful one.
When traveling anywhere, you should familiarize yourself with your destination’s medical service, police force and transportation options. Traveling to Prague is no exception.
Fortunately, you can access a wealth of Prague tourist information at the Prague Information Service. The friendly staff members working at any of the services four branches can help you find a sightseeing tour, book a dinner reservation, find a clean hotel or map a route through the city’s historic sights. They can also help you with more important matters; if you need a doctor or the services of a police officer, the Prague Information Service can assist you.
If you do need police attention, you should know that Prague’s main police station is located just a short walk from the busy Wenceslas Square in Prague’s busy downtown. Be warned, though: Many travelers give the Prague police force low marks for service.
If you do have an emergency, there are several numbers that you can call. The number for ambulance service is 155, for police 158, fire 150 and general emergency 112. Hopefully you won’t need these numbers. But you should keep them with you just in case.
There are two local hospitals in Prague that provide 24-hour care in English: Motol Hospital and Na Homolce Hospital. However, the Canadian Medicine Center in Prague is a favorite among tourists. The hospital ranks as one of the longest-running international clinics in Prague.
Of course, all the Prague tourist information in the world won’t help you if you don’t know how to get to the city. The easiest way is to fly into the Ruzyne Airport located in Dejvice, which is located just 12-and-a-half miles from the downtown center of Prague. The airport is fairly small and easy to navigate, a nice change from many oversized Western airports.
Once you’re at the airport, getting to the city is a relatively simple task. You can take the Cedaz shuttle bus or the Prague Airport Shuttle to get into town.
Once in Prague, it’s easiest to rely on public transportation. The city’s transportation options do run 24 hours a day, and the service is relatively reliable.
Driving is a bit trickier. The roads in Prague are constantly being upgraded; long traffic jams are not uncommon. And if you want to drive on the highway, you’ll have to purchase a special sticker. An "R" sticker means that you can drive in Prague for one year. An "M" sticker gives you one month’s worth of driving time, while a "D" sticker gives you permission to drive in the city for a week.
Knowing this basic Prague tourist information can make your trip to this most magical of Central European cities a smooth and care-free one. The more you know before you fly into the capital, the more time you’ll have to enjoy all that Prague offers.
A lot of Pragues tourists attractions are easily located from the square in the city centre so you may want to look at some of the hotels in prague city centre in order to be best loacted on your trip.
