Visiting Kassel for a few days would definitely be a pleasant experience, whether you bring along your family, your friends, or both. The reason is that this place has lots to offer to its guests, from the historical monuments and constructions you see right above the town to the relaxing bars and artisan shops in the center. Kassel will put you in a state of rest and well being, and it just about seems like it was made just for tourism, just like Las Vegas was made for casinos.

The most important attractions you should admire when touring Kassel are the Oktagon, the Druselturm, the Bruderkirce and Church of San Martin, and the Wilhelmshohe Palace.

The Oktogon (or Hercules Monument, as they seldom call it) is a very awe inspiring structure. It almost gives you the sensation it's been inspired by JR Tolkien's Lord of The Rings trilogy. It is a stone octagon (a characteristic which granted its name) and it shows a large statue of Heracles, the son of Zeus. It is placed on a hill high above the city, which denotes that you will also benefit from a magnificent view if you go to the Oktagon. Also, what I truly consider is best about it is that it has a very long cascading waterfall, made of giant stone steps that give it a fantastic aspect.

The Druselturm is the oldest structure in Kassel. It is a high tower, the sole vestige of the medieval rampart that safeguarded the settlement for a long period of time. For many years it was used as a prison. The crooks were lowered with a rope through the tower's floor to the prison chambers. Before World War 1 though, the tower became a lovely photo studio, and it lost its bad reputation. Unfortunately, it is not accessible, and you can only take a look at it from the outside.

The couple of aged churches, BruderKirche (ie brothers' church) and the Church of Saint Martin are also "Middle Aged" in essence, although few of their sections (for instance the two towers of the Church of Saint Martin) were only done in 1955. They also are some picturesque sights, and people are allowed to tour them from the inside, in the morning and in the afternoon. They will stumble upon cool feats of architecture, not to mention some truly impressive and carefully made statues of various saints.

The Wilhelmshohe Palace, like Hercules' Monument, is set on a hill above the town, and it is indeed a wonderful castle, built in 1780 for Wilhelm IX. Today it is an outstanding museum, housing ancient artifacts, tools and merchandise from ancient Greece times. Also, it holds a vast collection of Rembrandt paintings. Actually, this is the home of the country's second largest Rembrandt collection.

This is almost everything you need to know about Kassel's historical and cultural sights. Of course, it is a lively town that will not let you get bored if you choose to visit, because of the fairs, festivals, and other events which take place there.
