‘Every human is the author of his own health or disease’, a popular saying quoted by Buddha, which is most apt in today’s world. Today the names and types of diseases have increased immensely; its count is far more than it used to be earlier. This is because of the changing social cultures and lifestyles of the human beings. There is more of stress, work pressure, family problems, in the lives of people, so they are becoming prone to diseases due to the changing environments.

With the people getting aware of the side effects of the allopathic medicines, more and more people are opting for alternative medicines. In fact the interest of medicinal students, towards the alternative medicines is also rising. Students are taking keen interests in the varied forms of medicinal practices, other than allopathy. There are more than 100 types of alternative medicines practiced, most of which are the traditional methods of curing a disease. Studies in the same are also available, and a large number of medical students can be seen opting for courses such as Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Physiotherapy, Homeopathy, etc.

Homeopathy is one of the most natural ways of curing a disease; it follows the Law of Similars i.e. like cured by like. Homeopathy sees disease as an expression of the healing power of the body. Homeopathy is used for curing both chronic and acute stages of disease, though the disease takes time to recover, but it vanishes the root cause of the disease. Other than, eliminating the disease totally from the human body, homeopathy also helps in reducing the mental and emotional stress of the person, making the mind strong and having the power to fight with the disease.

The Bachelors of homeopathic medicine and surgery, like all other medical courses is a five and a half year degree course, after which a student aiming for Masters in Homeopathy needs to devote three more years to earn a degree of a qualified Homeopath.

The responsibility of a Homoeopath is same as of a normal doctor that is to serve the patient with all his support and integrity. Proper care should be taken of the patient and the medicines given should be in accordance to the nature of his body and its requirements. Also, homeopathy medicines have no side effects and take a longer time to cure. Doctor as well the patient needs to have patience in terms for the recovery of the disease, so the students in homeopathy must learn to be good observers and instill the qualities of calmness and tolerance in them.
