Maybe you run a construction or mining company and want to maximize the efficiency of your operations by being able to fill each dump truck with more waste and make fewer trips. Or maybe you’re just curious because you like mechanics, trucks, or strange records to tell your buddies about over a couple of beers.
Why you need to know is not necessarily important, but you still want to know: what is the biggest dump truck in the world? Do you really need the biggest dump truck or are you just wondering?
If you seriously want to purchase the biggest dump truck in the world, you better have one of the deepest wallets in the world. But if it will increase the efficiency of your construction business exponentially, might it not be worth the investment, if you can afford it?
Some manufacturers claim that the world’s biggest dump truck is actually the Komatsu 930E. The Komatsu 930E is in the running for the biggest dump truck in the world because it towers above the construction workers at 21 feet high, 26 feet wide, and 46 feet long.
The Komatsu 930E has a capacity of 319 tons and is designed with mine work in mind. It has max speeds of 40 miles per hour and a 2700 horsepower engine. It costs a mere $3 million. If you think the Komatsu 930E is the biggest dump truck in the world, though, you have another surprise coming!
The Komatsu 930E has been dethroned by the real biggest dump truck in the world, one which can reach top speeds of 42 miles per hour and has a 3550 horsepower engine. The biggest make of dump trucks may be the Caterpillar 797B, which clocks in at 25 feet tall, 32 feet wide, and 47.5 feet long.
The Caterpillar, the biggest dump truck in the world, can carry up to 345 tons of waste. Usually used in open put mining, this is one big dump truck that could make any construction or mining project much easier.
Maintaining the biggest dump truck in the world is no cheap endeavor. The tires alone are 13 feet tall and weigh four tons each—and need to be replaced every 35,000 miles or so at the cost of $40,000 EACH.
But if you bought the biggest dump truck in the world, you’re probably expecting that kind of maintenance cost. The Caterpillar itself costs between $4.6-5.7 million. The Caterpillar is so big that it will have to be shipped to you in parts and assembled on site.
If you haven’t got a spare million or three lying around, you at least have your story for the guys at the bar. Look online for a few pictures. The biggest dump truck in the world rivals Godzilla!
If you are a serious entrepreneur with a construction or mining business, you may really need this Godzilla of machines, the world’s biggest dump truck. Check over your business’ finances and see if you can afford to add a monster to the construction or mining site!
