Male midlife crisis, or rather what Happiness After Midlife prefers to call male midlife transition manifests itself via many symptoms such as becoming easily angered, becoming frustrated, feelings of anxiety, and a lot of hypersensitivity. Those going through male midlife crisis, or transition, could be any age, not just midlife. There's a hot debate on whether or not it is just a psychological disorder or due to hormones. Many men start to ask themselves:

  • Who am I?

  • What is really valuable in my life?

  • What is the true meaning of life?

  • How can I better connect with people?

  • Where is my life going?

  • What happens when I die?

These are questions that start to eat away at them as they search for answers.

One going through male midlife crisis or transition begins to search for these answers. Their behaviour can start to change. This will start to impact their lives as well as the lives of their loved ones. If you are a woman that has a husband going through a midlife crisis, you may start by giving him a lot of room. Help him to overcome this uncomfortable point in his life. If he is seeking out your support, show him support. If he becomes exceedingly angry, one of the best things you can do is not take it personally and give him space. If anger is not a normal behaviour for your spouse, then you can learn to let him get it out but not provoke it.

If you are the person going through midlife transition and you want to crawl out of your skin, you may want to seek professional help to assist you as you go through this tough time. You can consult a life coach or holistic physician that is fully trained in the whole person and not just certain aspects. They will assist you with the mind, body, spirit, and emotions all in one. They may help you discover the answers you are looking for.

Some people may experience a sense of liberation when going through a midlife crisis, while other people may be more clinically depressed. Everyone is different, and there is no way of knowing how people may take the different emotions they feel when going through such a change in their own lives. Some men do try different treatments. Some may try testosterone replacement therapy, but again there is still controversy over whether or not a midlife crisis is a hormonal disorder. Many men do well getting professional help to talk about what they are going through.

If you are going through male midlife crisis (transition), reduce the stress in your life if at all possible, practice meditation, seek the support of family and friends, continue to learn and improve yourself, be sure to eat well, take a healthy vitamin, and exercise regularly. This will help you start to feel better. Always seek balance in your life and you will start to feel better overall. You are not alone!
