We will not be young forever and our memory will not be just like it once was. Many would say every year we get older we tend to lose some precious memories that we had when we were younger. Then people also say that you grow wiser with age. That is it? Well it is both. Some people unfortunately meet the unfortunate disease of losing their memory all together which is a very sad thing to see and be a part of. For individuals who do not come for this in their lives they should think of ways to improve and keep the memory that they have and be sure that they don't lose it. That is a very hard thing to express since the brain deteriorates little by little the older you get. We are able to slow down this method by following some steps that will help us hold on to our memories just a bit longer.
To improve memory, you have to keep your brain healthy. So you have to consider things that make your brain unhealthy. For instance, having too much to drink can shorten your memory span over time. What exactly that means is that you can drink in moderation, but you should just drink a glass not the whole bottle. If you think about it though, what leads most people to want to drink excessively? Usually stress and depression lead people to the bottle of alcohol much more than any other reason. Depression and stress also hurt the brain thus deteriorating it. If you are suffering from depression, do not hold back until it is out of control. The longer you wait the more damage it can cause to your brain and memory.
You will hear all over the place that we all should keep in shape. Well if we truly value our minds and brains we should make sure we watch what we eat, exercise and have our regular checkups with our doctors. Preventative maintenance on the body can really help your brain and improve memory.
Many have heard the expression that a picture is worth a lot of words. This is very true. Now in order to improve memory you should try to visualize different things. When you are reading something for work or in your leisure you should try to visualize what you are reading. Your mind is thinking double and is being worked versus staying dormant. The more you are making your brain work the better you'll improve your memory over time. This could also choose paying attention in class or in a gathering. The more information you attain in those situations the better your mind will be. When you meet a brand new person do your best to repeat their name in your head and associate their name with their face.
Another method and practice to enhance memory is to use chunking. Many people use chunking in order to remember numbers and such. They simply associate numbers with words so instead of thinking of the number, you say the number of words or perhaps a story and you will remember the numbers. Maybe you are trying to remember how to get to a particular place in town or a bus route. You can use visuals such as landmarks and other objects around the area you are desperate to go to be able to help you remember.
A phrase heard commonly is that a mind is a dreadful thing to waste. This is true. You do not want to waste your mind or your memories. Improve memory every day takes some practice. Devote your time as well as your efforts daily to improve memory so you will keep your mind provided you live.
