A new website has been launched for the wide range of hobbies enjoyed everyday by many people.

Hobbydex.co.uk features two areas, one for classified advertisements and the other is a directory. In the classified section any hobby related items can be bought, sold or exchanged (and if your after something particular that can be tagged under a 'wanted' option. The other focus of the website will be the directory area. This is designed for both large and small organizations to list the services they offer or to advertise their team, group, association, etc.

There is a growing list of over 750 different hobby categories catering for a multitude of activities be they outdoor based, creative, technical or physical. Hobbies often attract a 'traditional' view restricting activities to stamp collecting, model making, knitting, wine making, etc. Hobbydex will dispel that myth by featuring newer hobbies like Parkour (Free Running) and Zumba and some of the more esoteric interests like Octopush and Stool Ball. New and current hobbies will keep the website fresh appealing to both traditional and experimental user groups.

A Hobby is generally described as an activity or interest pursued outside one's general regular occupation and engaged primarily for relaxation or pleasure. That gives a potential audience for Hobbydex running into millions.

Launching Hobbydex founder Herman Lewis explains " The idea came to me one Saturday several years ago whilst waiting for my daughter to finish her ballet class. I pondered how other parents found out about the class. Generally through word of mouth or localized promotion, but if you weren't moving in the right circles chances are it would pass you by.

After researching what was available and what would be required I began developing the website. Along the way I identified an opportunity for classified advertisements as well as a directory. For me the most obvious benefits are the ability to connect people through a shared passion and to gain new interest and popularity in the lesser known and supported hobbies. In the current economic crisis some will be looking to their hobby as a means of generating principal or second incomes. What better way to get your name out there than this website?"

The website has a minimalist design with greater emphasis being placed on searching, filtering and getting straight to the information users want. Whilst establishing the site, placing advertisements and directory listings will be free.
