How to Make Your Own E-Juice

Vaping sometimes isn’t budget-friendly, especially if you are a fan of some of the more exotic flavors. This is where DIY e-juice comes in. It isn’t hard to make your own e-juice at home. All you need is a few ingredients, the appropriate equipment, and perseverance.

The Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients:

Propylene Glycol (PG)

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

Diluted Nicotine

Flavoring

The Method

The method is fairly simple. Just add the required amounts of PG, VG, nicotine, and flavoring in a bottle using eyedroppers and shake the mixture well. Use the guidelines mentioned below to determine how much of PG and VG you should add, but as far as flavoring is concerned, less is always more! Add 2-3 drops of flavoring initially, and increase if needed. This way you will avoid the common mistake of over flavoring your DIY e-juice. Furthermore, the commonly used concentrations of nicotine are 12mg or 18mg. You can experiment, but do not exceed the maximum safe limit of 36mg.

Determining the Correct PG/ VG ratio

The popular PG/VG ratio that DIY e-juice makers use is a 70/30 ratio. You can always experiment with different ratios to find the one that you prefer the most. The main features of both diluents are outlined below to allow you to make an informed choice.

Both the compounds are FDA approved, safe for consumption and both have their own pros and cons. Both are odorless and colorless, so are ideal diluents for your DIY e-juice. A higher proportion of PG is preferred by many vapors because it makes for a more viscous mixture, gives a stronger throat hit effect and it leaves comparatively less residue in the vaping device. VG, on the other hand, gives a far thicker e-juice, leaves more residue in the vaping system and gives a milder throat hit effect.

If you have used e-juice before that you liked, then check the label or the details provided by the source to check the ratio used there. But if you are a beginner, then there is no harm in experimenting with your DIY e-juice. Try different ratios and see which one you like the most.

Handling Nicotine Properly

Nicotine is a highly dangerous substance. If it comes into contact with the skin it can require an immediate trip to the emergency room. Moreover, if even a little bit of nicotine gets in the eye, it can cause blindness. So, be sure to use safety goggles and gloves when handling nicotine. And when it is not in use, keep it in a safe place that can’t be reached by children or pets.

Let the Concoction Breathe

Once you have made your very own DIY e-juice and given it a taste, you might not find the taste to be exactly as you had expected. But before you become disheartened or decide to throw away the mixture, allow it to rest for a bit. The flavoring can take some time (up to a week) to reach its full potential.
