Effective Tips to remember all that you studied

I can’t remember all that I study. Sometimes, I just feel like school wasn’t meant for me or my brain wasn’t design for the study. Yes, these are some of the comments I hear from some students.

There are so many reasons that I can be attributed to a student’s poor academic performance.

A lackadaisical attitude towards study can be considered as a key factor that leads to poor academic performance.

Again, what of if you are serious academically, you wish and you do put a significant amount of effort in studying. But whenever you study, you always forget what you studied. This alone can be an impeding factor that can discourage you from studying harder.

This is because studying and not being able to remember makes studying like a waste of time, energy and effort.

I know exactly how this feels, and that is why I would love to share this little experience with you.

So many years ago, I used to have a very good friend. He was quite talented in formulating song lyrics. He wasn’t so good at academics. At some point, this was bothering him a lot. So he asked me how I did it. I simply told him to study harder and more frequently. Nothing more!

He followed my advice I began studying, though not every day, but he studied more frequently.

By studying, he was able to develop a level of passion for books. Unfortunately, he lost the vibe. He was given a test which he performed so badly.

I asked him what happened during the test. He told me he forgot everything he studied.

At that point, I became speechless and rather sad.

I couldn’t do much to help him at that time. But now, it would have been easier for me to get him on his feet if I had the experience I have now.

It is part of my experience that I would share with you. If you read this post well and you are able to put it to test, I can assure you an upgrade in your academics performance.

These simple but effective tips would help you remember all that you have read.

Reading and not remembering all that you read can be quite annoying. If you are tired of experiencing this, then check out the following tips. This tip has been tested and proven. It will produce very impactful results if you follow its rule diligently

  1. Create a Quiet Environment:

The first step you would need to do is to create a quiet environment for yourself. A quiet environment is anywhere you are comfortable with. It is a place that is free from distractions.

A quiet environment can be anywhere. It can be your room, the garden, etc. It can be anywhere that you can focus on.

  1. Thrive for Focus:

The next step is to thrive for focus. You would need to stay focus if you are to achieve the very purpose you are reading this post.

  1. Skim through your Study Materials:

Skimming through your study material would provide you with an overview of all that you need to know.

This is important, as it can give you a focus. Skimming helps the brain prepare for what it is about to absorb. It can be seen as a pre-reading stage.

  1. Break Sentences down into Manageable Junks:

Sometimes, the study can look very difficult and complex. It just seems like the words are completely unintelligible.

This may make reading and remembering a very task. This is because you would hardly remember what you read without proper understanding.

Breaking sentences into manageable junks can simplify your study experience.

This can be done by reading the sentence in bits while trying to digest the meaning it portrays.

In order ways, try to avoid reading and memorizing very long sentences. The tendency that you would forget what you read would be high.

  1. Recite:

Recitation can be tagged as a process of memorization. Memorization entails committing knowledge into one’s memory.

The primary objective of memorization is to make sure you don’t forget whatever knowledge needed to be retained.

Using the method of recitation during study can make whatever you study to stick to your memory.

This is best effective when you recite the content of your study material until you know that you can say it off-hand.

  1. Thrive for Understanding:

Truth is, you would forget all that you read without a proper understanding of what you read.

You would do yourself a lot of good if you thrive for the understanding of whatsoever you read.

Open up your imagination to it. Have a clear and practical picture of what you are reading and I bet you, you won’t be able to forget what you read.

  1. Associate Images with Words:

When you read, try as much as possible to associate words with pictures in your mind.

It is no fallacy that a single picture speaks a thousand words.

If you associate the words you read with pictures, then you be able to remember those words when you think of those images.

This principle works well because pictures are easily captured by the mind than words.

  1. Make use of Acronyms:

The use of an acronym is a good trick to remember what you read.

For instance, the acronym "MR NIGER D" summarizes the entire characteristics of living things which are Movement, Respiration, Nutrition, Irritability, Growth, Excretion, Reproduction, and death.

By using an acronym, you would have a hard time forgetting all that you read.

  1. Act what you Read:

Acting what you read is another effectual way to remember all you read.

The use of hand movements, or in general, body gesture can be very effectual.

By acting what you read, you will find out that you are actively involved in reading. A common cause of not being able to remember what you read can be because you are reading passively.

Another benefit of acting what you read is that it makes reading interesting.

  1. Revise:

This is the last step in this article but certainly not the last step.

Revising what you read is a critical part of reading known as the post-reading stage. If you do not revise what you read, you should be prepared to forget.

I went to an academic program, and there was a brilliant young man that was sharing his experience with us at the program. According to this man, before he writes any exam, he must read the textbook of that course not less than three times.

He does this so that he would not forget what he read.

You would need to revise all that you read as times progresses. The more you revise, the harder it is for you to forget.
