What is social bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is a hot topic at the moment, but what exactly is it? Well social bookmarking is where the internet is categorised by humans. Normal search engines send out robots to search the internet and split it up into categories, these robots do an ok job, but they're not human.
Social bookmarking is where humans (not machines pretending to be humans) actually search the internet and share a list of their favourite sites with others using services like Squidoo, Google Bookmarks, Yahoo My Web, and many others.
The links generated by social networks are of a much higher quality because the person is able to assess each site individually much better than search engines. Plus social networking can make it much more difficult for webmasters to manipulate what the search engines actually think about them.
Social bookmarking is a wonderful way of using the internet, by searching for people that have interests similar to your own you can quickly and easily find a list of sites that may be of interest to you. The sites in their list are more likely to be interesting to you since the person shares the same interests as you, you should be able to find hundreds of sites that are interesting to you.
When social bookmarking is used properly it can be a great traffic generating tool, not to mention it's free. By using social bookmarking it is possible for many webmasters and bloggers to get much more traffic.
If you do plan on starting a blog, you must update it on a regular basis. Frequent updates to your blog will encourage the web spiders to visit it and so drive more traffic to your site, and anyway you surely want something new for your subscribers to read!
The best way to get that traffic to your site is by updating your site and the links on the social bookmarking site on a daily basis. In order to be successful doing business on the internet you must make connections, the internet has the possibility of a virtually unlimited population to those with the right connections.
By increasing the back links from sites considered important by search engines this will only do your site good! This will increase your traffic, and your page rank. Starting the process is often the most difficult; it will start to snowball after no time but you must keep after your goals. Make it happen!!
