Introduced into the United States approximately 20 years ago as domesticated house pets, Sugar Gliders are an extremely popular companion pet. Gliders come in a variety of colors but most are gray bodied with black and white undersides others are leucistic and albino. Breeders also breed for specific colors or traits like white faces, leucistic, and albino. These gliders are generally more expensive from breeders. They are a little over half a foot long with their tail being almost the same length. Most gliders only weigh a few ounces about 3 to 5. The sugar gliders tail is very interesting to watch, they can use it to pick up small objects but not support themselves with it (never pick one up by the tail). The Sugar Glider can glide for a surprisingly long distance. Flights have been measured at over 55 yards and steer effectively by curving one patagium or the other.
