Deck is usually referred to playing cards that are altered in order to allow magicians perform certain card tricks where sleight of hand would either be too difficult or too impractical. These decks can be purchased from any magic dealers.

Magicians perform various kinds of card tricks like stripper deck, Svengali deck, marked deck, mental photography deck, Forcing deck, rising card deck, Invisible deck, Brainwave deck, Miniature deck, Round deck, Jumbo deck, crooked deck and many more. Of all these, invisible deck is regarded as one of the best card tricks. This is a rough and smooth deck; it shows the chosen card face down in a bunch of face up cards, thus making it easy to locate the card especially in dim lighting. The entire card is smooth while only the middle sections are treated with roughing agents.

How is the trick played? This is a very interesting yet simple trick that has gained huge acceptance among audience. The so called invisible deck is handed to a participant who is instructed to blow through the cards and pick up one card, memorise it and reinsert it facing the other way. Once this is done, the deck is handed over to the magician who tosses it back in to a paper bag where the card becomes real and visible. When the cards are spread face up, the participant’s card is the only one that is reversed in the deck.

Another way of doing this is by asking the participant to guess a freely selected card that is displayed at the beginning of the show, the magician guesses the participants selection and reverses it in the deck which he has been holding all this while. The trick derives its name from the imaginary or invisible deck which the magician hands over to the participant. On receiving the deck, the participant is either made to remove the card from the case, shuffle them, spread them with their face up on a table, choose a card or replace it with face down among other face up cards. Thus return the box back to the magician.

This is most interesting part of the invisible deck show. At this juncture, either the participant retains the imaginary deck while the magician removes the real deck from his pocket or the participant hands over the imaginary deck to the magician which suddenly becomes a real one. It is a very common practise for the magician to ask the participant to name the card which he/she selects, remove from the deck, face up from its box and then spread them with one face down card. This is a highly organised method where the moment participant removes the card, the magician names it.

The deck used by magician is made by sticking pairs of cards together with their backs joined together. This enables the magician to handle the cards as a single one and at the same time can be easily separated by using slight pressure. The only important aspect which performer needs to remember is which card is paired to which card and its facing. If you master this, you are sure to become a great magician.
