Choose your first triathlon
It is recommended that you start with a sprint triathlon if this is your first event and is usually a half-mile swim followed by a 13-mile bike race and a 3.2-mile run. Once you have completed this then you can move onto Olympic, Half or Full Ironman and really test your mettle.

It’s going to be a grueling training schedule so start early. Your body needs to adapt to the demands of a triathlon and the more training you can put in the better. Typically a sprint marathon could take as little as 3 months to train for.

By know you already know your strengths but your weaknesses are what need work. Keep training on your strengths but really focus your attention on your weaknesses to step up your game, if running is your shortfall hit the pavement twice as hard to give you a rounded game.

Build a triathlon workout and strong ethic. To succeed at a triathlon it’s essential to stick to your training regime. Always aim to exercise 1-to-3 hours per day 5 or 6 days per week. Have a rest day one day per week to allow your body to recover. Start off slow as you build strength and endurance. Do not underestimate your rest periods as is essential to recovery, so schedule different types of workouts for alternate days.

Change ups and intensity. It is important to rotate your triathlon workouts. For several weeks in a row you can emphasize explosive power and sprinting. Gradually decrease intensity and increase distance. Once you reach the distances for the triathlon you are training for, start the intensity stagger over. You can also work for speed in the first half of the week and endurance during the second half of the week.

Event combination. You need to start preparing your body several weeks before the event what to expect participating in your first triathlon. Start introducing all the elements into your schedule, you want to be running, swimming, and cycling all in one day. Vary the distances but always keep the routine and order the same. Before the race increase your rest periods and focus on staying loose and fit. Race day will be on you before you know it, follow this simple guide and you will be ready!
