Every woman wants everything to be perfect on their wedding day. This is a once in a lifetime event after all and every woman have been dreaming, planning, and wishing for this occasion ever since they were a child, watching Cinderella and her beautiful magical gown. Fast forward to the present and reality: weddings aren't cheap. One way to save on expenses is to create your own wedding invitations. These tips will help and guide you on the process of creating your very own wedding invitations.
#1 – Research and Collect DIY Wedding Invitation Ideas
The internet is very rich with wedding invitation ideas. Do an image search on Google. You can also browse wedding invitation vendors and browse the gallery for invitations you love. Save all the images you can find and store them all in a folder. You can also scour stationary and craft stores, and magazines. I suggest having a folder named 'wedding invitation ideas' in your hard drive. Study all your collected images and narrow down which layout, theme, shapes or designs that you love best.
#2 – Design Your Wedding Invitation
By now, you'll have a color theme picked out. Decide what layout and design elements you want to include on your invitation. Next, design your invitation on Photoshop or you can have somebody design it for you. This way, you are assured you'll have a unique invitation that is completely your own and stamped with your personal style. Another cheap alternative is to search for printable wedding invitations in the internet.
#3 – Create a Sample
It is a good idea to create a sample of your wedding invitation before buying all materials. This way, you get an insight on your needs to create invitations by bulk. This is also to avoid buying materials that may go unused.
#4 – Decide on the Printer and Paper You'll Use
Printer and paper are two of the main materials you'll need. Determine if your home printer is up for the job of printing hundreds of invitations. Consider also the print quality of your printer. You may decide to borrow a printer from a friend and just pay for the ink or you may want to invest on a new printer of your own. As for paper, browse for the type of specialty paper online and in your local craft and educational stores.
#5 – Buy Your Wedding Invitation Materials
It would be wise to nail down your guest list before buying materials so to have a good idea on the number of invitations you will be making. Do research on the best suppliers of paper, envelopes, ribbons and other invitation embellishments. Do not forget to buy extra inks for your printer. Some stores have coupons and sales, so take advantage of those. If you can, ask for special discounts.
#6 – Print Your Printables
Print all computer-generated wordings and graphics the night before assembling the invitations to avoid the ink from smudging.
#7 – Assemble Your DIY Wedding Invitation
This is the time to make use of your bridesmaids. Ask help from friends and family members and assign each of them a production station. For example, bridesmaid #1 is tasked to cut paper, another to cut ribbons. You get the idea.
Making your own DIY wedding invitations can be fun and successful. Not only would you have a one-of-a-kind invitations with your personal touch, it is a great way to chat and catch up on wedding plans with your girlfriends. Whip up some cocktails or call for pizza and make it a girls' fun night.
