Are you troubled with erectile problems? Erectile dysfunction is unfortunately a quite widespread problem amongst men, especially those who suffer from diabetes. ED is characterized by the inability to obtain and maintain an erection suitable for penetrative sex in at least every one of four attempts made. It can't be regarded only as a physical issue as it delivers a strong impact on the psychological well-being of a man, affecting his relationships and even everyday activities. There are many factors that may be the cause for erectile dysfunction to develop including health problems, substance abuse, medication side-effects, stress, depression and even lifestyle issues.
The lack of proper blood sugar control is the most obvious reason for diabetic men to suffer from erectile problems. Hardened arteries are another factor contributing to erectile dysfunction as they do not allow the proper passage of oxygen and blood to certain parts of the body like penis.
Still, diabetes is far from being the only reason for the development of erectile issues. Other factors that are commonly known to cause erectile dysfunction include cardiovascular diseases, aging and lack of proper sexual arousal. Hormonal imbalance, high cholesterol levels and medication side effects can also contribute to the problem. By keeping all of these factors under control you will be able to prevent erectile dysfunction and enjoy good sex for much longer.
Fact is that erectile dysfunction is preventable and controllable. Some of the most effective and simple measure you can take to prevent the development of this condition is to control your blood sugar levels, exercise regularly, get rid of excessive weight, and stop smoking and drinking. Numerous studies have confirmed that lack of physical activity and excessive weight greatly contribute to the development of erectile problems.
In some cases medications for diabetes may be the actual cause for sexual problems as their side-effects may interfere with normal sexual functions. If you observe any changes in your sexual performance you should speak to your doctor and ask if the drug you are taking currently may be the cause behind it. If it turns out so, ask your doctor to change the drug.
Erectile dysfunction drugs like Cialis may also be used. However, it was observed that some diabetic men who buy Cialis or Viagra do not obtain the same effectiveness of these drugs as non-diabetic individuals. That is because the high sugar levels and damaged blood vessels interfere with the action of these drugs, making it harder to achieve the same effects as in other men.
On the other hand, erectile dysfunction solutions in the form of penile vacuum pumps have been reported to have high success rates among men with diabetes. That is because vacuum pumps do not interfere with the internal chemical balance and have a purely physical mechanism of action that is effective no matter what is the cause of erectile dysfunction.
Having erectile problems doesn't necessarily mean that you will never be able to enjoy sex as you did in the past. Of course, it brings a lot of frustration but you shouldn't get depressed about it right away. There are many ways you can restore your sexual performance even if you have diabetes. It all takes some time and dedication, and after some time you will be able to enjoy sex just as you did earlier.
