Any guy invited to be a best man in a wedding will fret, thinking that he surely is going to say a speech – unless if he is used to speaking publicly then there’s no problem. But to the majority who isn’t, they sure need some research to do. As a little help, I will enumerate a few ideas for a best man’s speech.
• Start your speech with a joke. A joke is used to break the mind-freezing ice, and also to catch some attention from the people around. It is also used as an opening for a speech if the groom it reflects his personality since the listeners will get to know more about the groom through your speech.
• Introduce yourself. Introducing yourself will let people know who you are and why you were chosen as the best man, since not everybody around might know you. Include how you and the groom, as well as the bride, met and since when you guys know each other.
• Share some anecdote or a past experience that you and the groom shared together. However, sharing about the groom’s past relationships is a big no-no, so please don’t say anything about those. Choose only the experiences that could boost the groom’s virtues in the eyes of the visitors, and most importantly, in the bride’s eyes.
• Say something about the bride. Just because your speech should mostly contain about the groom doesn’t mean that the bride is excluded. After all, the best man came for the groom’s and bride’s special day, isn’t it? Even a little compliment thrown at her would mean a lot.
• Don’t forget your thank you’s. The best man’s main job is to make sure that everyone’s been thanked for making the plan a reality, as the bride and groom might forget acknowledging because of preoccupation over a lot of things to think about.
Parents – especially the bride’s if they paid for the wedding expenses. However, avoid saying it blatantly, just a simple thanks for their support is enough.
Visitors – for coming over to the event and witnessing the lovebird’s special event of their lives.
Individuals – those who helped in making the event happen: the wedding planning, who prepared the food, and those who helped in decorating and setting the venue.
• Propose a toast. Lastly, it is the responsibility of the best man to propose a toast for the bride and groom, and wishing them a good life together.
I hope this helps. Go ahead and brace them with your empowering speech! Just say what’s in your heart and you’ll surely make it through – wow them even. More powers!
Growing up, I was always known as the affluent speaker in my circle of friends. Everyone knows me as someone who can speak to anyone and make a fun and interesting conversation out of nowhere. That is probably why I am always being asked to give speeches with best man jokes at weddings, graduations, and celebrations of other kinds. My specialty is weddings.
