Making a best man speech and got no idea what to say/ write? Here are a few pointers for an amazing best man speech that could mark an impression on anyone’s mind.
(1) Identify yourself and your relationship with the newlyweds. Not anyone in the gathering will know you, so it is nicer to at least give them a slight idea of your relationship to the groom, how you became buddies, and why he has chosen you as his best man.
(2) Thank the parents of the bride and groom, the maid of honor and the bridesmaids, the individuals, and those who came. The parents deserve to be thanked for their love and support for their kids, especially if they shouldered the expenses of the whole activity. But if the bride and groom footed the bill, then thank them for inviting each and everyone that is present in their ceremonial day. The maid of honor and the bridesmaids will also love you for acknowledging them and their efforts in doing their parts, so a little word of appreciation would go a long way. The people who have made everything happen also deserve to be thanked for. The visitors for joining in the celebration, especially those who traveled a long way just to celebrate with the bride and groom.
(3) Tell a story, a, inspirational quote, or a joke. You can do this by using some props that could be very much helpful in delivering your message – could be pictures, toys, etc. The story should be well chosen as it should entertain the crowd – it could be an escapade of you two as friends in the past (but don’t include his escapades with his previous girlfriends, since it is offensive to the wife and could humiliate the groom he might want to kill you). An inspirational quote or a marriage advice is also helpful in delivering your speech, of course, only topics related to the wedding ceremony. But the best and the most hilarious way in giving out your speech is through funny jokes. However, take into consideration the personality of the groom, whether he is a guy who takes life seriously or not because the deliverance of the speech should reflect the groom’s personality, since you are showcasing him to his bride, to his immediate family, and to their common friends. Also, giving out funny jokes is only applicable if you know how to share a punch line, otherwise, do not! You might end up as a laughing stock, and we want to avoid that, don’t we?
(4) Say your well wishes to the bride and groom, along with the toast. This is usually the ending of every wedding speech, as it is a task of the best man to propose a toast; hence, your part is also called a wedding toast.
By the way, as best man, your main task during the event is to be the master planner; hence, you are bound to announce any further activities if this no master of ceremony, or to introduce the next speaker, if there is any. Also as best man, you should read the letters, cards, or any form of communication sent by families and friends abroad who would also like to greet the new couple the best wishes.
And the most important part of your role? Enjoy the celebration! =)
Growing up, I was always known as the affluent speaker in my circle of friends. Everyone knows me as someone who can speak to anyone and make a fun and interesting conversation out of nowhere. That is probably why I am always being asked to give speeches with best man jokes at weddings, graduations, and celebrations of other kinds. My specialty is weddings.
