Male wedding rings are generally as essential as female wedding rings in the ceremony. It is a symbolic representation that a man is entirely committed and betrothed. There is no clear reason why men must wear wedding rings. For many people, it is just a matter of preference. It's a way of telling the woman that they're dedicated just to her. It is more of a symbolic representation than a necessity.
Selecting a wedding ring isn't an easy endeavor. You'll find literally hundreds of styles on the market. Narrowing down your choices boil down to practicality. Whether it is a female or a male wedding ring, the rules for selecting are usually just the same. You have to take into consideration the comfort, the design and the components. Customarily, male wedding rings are made from silver or gold. But, for men handling heavy duty equipment, a gold band will not be functional. More durable elements like titanium and tungsten are currently available. Your alternatives are endless and if there is a certain design which you like, you may have one made to order.
Wedding rings should be purchased by the couple together. They can decide on style that they mutually want. This is especially necessary when selecting matching wedding rings. A male wedding ring is typically more expensive compared to female rings because of the heavier weight of the material. But it will depend on the style and design. If the woman’s ring features a more lavish design or has a gemstone in it, then it would definitely be more expensive. Most men choose male wedding rings with basic design so they can wear it with any attire.
The male wedding ring is a relatively recent trend in the jewelry business. That is why the press doesn't pay too much attention to it yet. Women's wedding rings always swipe the attention of the cameras from the woman during celebrity wedding events. Everyone wants to know what style of jewelry it is, how much it was paid for and how many carats if it’s diamond jewelry. The sole publicity the guys get is when they shell out thousands of dollars to purchase that ring. Recognition or not, male wedding rings are meant to be sentimental and men should really devote some time out to pick the best one for them.
When men started wearing wedding rings
It was only during the early 20th century that men started wearing male wedding rings. A long time back, it was only the women who wear wedding rings. The men give it to the women as a proposal gift. During the break of the World War II, men started putting it on to remember their partner back home. Right after the Korean War, it has become a sentimental piece of jewelry for the male population. Matching wedding rings slowly rose to popularity and lavish styles have popped up.
How is it traditionally worn?
Whether the male wedding ring is worn on the left hand or on the right hand is a matter of cultural variation. In certain cultures, wearing the ring on the right finger signifies upholding of the oath and vows of holy matrimony. Because the right hand is the standard hand used in vows and oaths, they thought that wedding rings should be placed there. On the other hand (literally), rings are worn on the left ring finger. The reason being some customs believing in vena amoris or ‘vein of love’. They say that a vein from the left ring finger is attached to the heart. There's no clearly defined principles about which finger should wear the bands. It’s all about significance of love and custom. Some even convey more practical reasons. People say that since most individuals are right handed, wearing it on the left finger makes it less at risk of damage. One more thing is, the ring finger has much less use when compared to the other fingers. This allows it to hold the ring without disrupting any task involving the hand.
The finger ratio and the Casanova pattern
Did you ever hear about the well-known womanizer Giacomo Casanova? It is said that he once mentioned that a person’s finger proportion relates to his or her competencies. It is said that if the ring finger is longer compared to the index finger, then it's called the Casanova pattern. It is said that people with ring fingers lengthier than the index finger are usually skillful in mathematics and physics. Additionally they are inclined to become more profitable. On the contrary, those with lengthier index fingers are much better in spoken and literacy abilities.
