A "ketubah" is a Jewish marriage contract that reminds the groom and bride about their responsibilities and also enables them to understand the Jewish law and financial obligations associated with the marriage. The ketubah has a section that records the date and the names of the bride and groom. As part of the Jewish tradition, it requires the signatures of two witnesses. The officiant reads it out loud specifically for the witnesses, then gives it to the groom, who then gives it to the bride and it becomes her possession.
