How to Fix a Relationship and help save your marriage

It's common for every relationship - marriage included - to hit a rough patch. This does not mean that the relationship will break up - IF you take positive action, that is.

Here are several things you can do to save your marriage, fix your relationship and keep it strong.

Number one: Assess the relationship

What do you think is wrong and why do you believe your marriage or relationship is in trouble?

Has your partner (husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend) been cheating or having an affair? Are you bored or stuck in a rut? What's causing you to want to fix your relationship now?

If you're reading this article, then you believe something is wrong with your marriage or relationship. Be honest with yourself to figure out where to start to save your marriage and fix your broken or breaking relationship.

Number two: How you move forward to save your marriage and fix your relationship will, of course depend on what you discover in step one above. However here are some possibilities:

  • Ask your spouse what's on their mind. Does he or she feel the same as you about your marriage or relationship? Have your needs or goals for the relationship or theirs changed? Be direct. Ask your loved one (and yourself) what will make them (and you) happy and, together figure out what you need to do to "re-engage", renew and fix your relationship.

  • Actively re-engage with your husband or wife. By this I mean get involved with the things that they like to do (and that you perhaps USED to like too). Even force yourself to go out on a date with your husband or wife, get together with friends, have a party and do whatever it takes to break out of the usual rut or boring routines.

  • Keep Smiling and Stay Positive. It very easy to fall into a bad mood" or to be depressed about the state of your relationship. My advice here is: Snap out of it - Stop IT - and resist any urge to feel sorry for yourself. Instead, force yourself (if needed) to smile while together with your spouse - you figure out how to fix your relationship and save your marriage.

And finally, know this …

Every relationship needs to be refreshed, saved or fixed from time to time. And in the words of my Mother-in-Law (who I loved) used to say, "This too shall pass".

The point is that relationships are living growing things that must be tended to and nurtured if you want them to survive and thrive.

In this article we only touch a few areas of how to save or how to fix a relationship - and how to help your marriage stay strong.
