When planning a wedding the photographer you choose is one of the most important things to consider. You want to make sure the one you pick the best one for available to you. Your wedding photos will enable you to relive the day time after time. You will want make sure that your special day is captured with beautifully taken photos. It is not just the price you want to look out for as this does really let you know about the quality of the photographer.

Photographer’s personality

Don’t just base your decision on the website or brochure of the wedding photographer, meet him/her. You are going to spend a fair amount of time with this person and follow their instruction on capturing your day. If you don’t get on with this person and there is something about their personality that doesn’t work well with yours, then you could be in for a rough ride.

Do you feel comfortable around the photographer?

Meet up with a few photographers and find if you can work together, a good working relationship will produce better photos. Some of the best photos will be taken when you are relaxed and not posing for the camera. A photographer who can help relax you will help to achieve more of these shots.

Does he/she feel genuine to you?

After all they must love doing the job and if you detect elements of falseness then walk away. It is natural for the photographer to be selling their service but if you feel they are acting to much like a pushy car sales man then be suspicious, they probably only care about getting a name on a contract and getting hold of your cash.

Previous Work

You should ask to see a full portfolio of work, not just the images chosen for the sales brochure. If they don’t want to show you this detail then you need to ask yourself why? Chances are they are hiding something.

Look at the photos and be critical, you want your photos to stand out and be something to be proud of. If the style of images is something lacking in style and originality then your photos will probably end up the same as everyone else’s. There is of course an element of those certain styles and poses are expected but what about other shots. Does the photographer document the build up - the bride getting ready, other members of the family preparing for the big day?

Price

The big question, don’t presume that the best are the most expensive. There are many of local wedding photographers who have real style and flair that are not over priced. Use the resources available to you, go to wedding fairs, research online and speak to friends and family. You should be able to find out quite easily what the prices are in your area with too much trouble. Research is essential.

Be careful of the extras, many packages do not include that desirable coffee table album that will display your photos at their best. Some photographers will only supple basic albums. Once they have you on board they know they can charge more for these products. Find out from the start what is included.

Get it right and you’ll soon have wonderfully captured memories to last a lifetime!
