With so much on their minds already, today's bride and groom have yet another choice to make when it comes to planning their wedding... wedding insurance. In a nut shell, wedding insurance is exactly what it says it is. It is an insurance policy that covers you and protects you against any accident or problems that might occur during your wedding. Now you are probably thinking, what the heck do I need that for? But think about it, the average costs of weddings today is in the upper 20 thousand dollar range. This is the cost of a down payment on a home and you purchase home owners insurance when you purchase a home. Doesn't it then make sense to protect this large money investment?

Before you shake your head and disregard getting insurance altogether, here are some things to consider. Most wedding insurance policies only cost in the range of 125 to 500 dollars for a basic plan. The overall cost depends on the type of policy you purchase, the total cost of your wedding and whether or not you purchase any extra riders to your policy. The purchase of wedding insurance can be done 12 months before the wedding or even within 24 hours of the blessed event.

So now that you know what it costs, it is important to understand what wedding insurance actually covers. Think about it, you spent all this time planning, so you really want to make sure that your wedding is covered so that you can recoup all the money you put out for deposits you have given to vendors, or at the very least having your wedding rescheduled. The following things are covered under a basic policy:

Location

if something happens to your location such as bankruptcy which causes them to close or a fire or other disaster which prevent you wedding from taking place, you will get complete reimbursement of what you have put out of your pocket.

Weather

Most wedding insurance policies cover extreme weather that make it impossible for your wedding guests to attend such as flooding, hurricanes, snowstorms or any other natural weather event. Most policies will cover the cost of rescheduling your wedding.

Illness/injury

Wedding insurance will proved coverage if someone in the wedding party or immediate family is unable to attend the wedding because they became injured or are too ill to attend. The policy will either pay for postponement or rescheduling of the event.

Missing Vendors/Officiant

If one of your vendors should happen to not show up, a wedding insurance policy will help you also recover the cost of rescheduling the whole wedding.

There are additional riders that you can purchase which will cover things like the wedding having to be postponed because either the bride or the groom has been called to military duty; coverage for the bride and grooms attire against damage; coverage for lost or damaged gifts; liability coverage in case someone gets hurt at your wedding and honeymoon insurance in case your entire trip is canceled because of unforeseen circumstances. You can also purchase Event Liability and Property Damage Insurance which covers the bride and groom against any type of alcohol related accidents with guests, vendor injury or if a vendor causes damage to anyone or anything or even if someone at the wedding ends up being injured.

Just about the only thing that is not covered in some way by Wedding Insurance are cold feet. Wedding insurance is a wonderful addition to planning any wedding and should be taken quite seriously. For just a fraction of your overall wedding costs, you will be covered and will get a large portion of your money back or a rescheduled wedding should something happen. It will definitely take a big weight off of your shoulders when you get the right coverage.
